Biography: Milton S. (Mit) Elliott was born in Brazos County, Texas on Sept. 16, 1916. He died on March 4, 2011 in Little Rock. Milton was predeceased by his wife, Zelma Dial Elliott, who died Nov. 19, 1990. They were married for 52 years. Milton is survived by his only child, John Milton Elliott, and his wife, Susan Henderson Elliott; his grandson, William Milton Elliott, and his wife Tammy; great Granddaughters,Bailey, Taylor and Sydney Elliott. He is also survived by a special nephew and niece, Robert and Jean Dial, and their children, Tammy Ross and Robert J. Dial all of Little Rock. Milton saw many changes throughout his long life. As a boy living outside the Tabor, Texas community he rode a horse to school. He then moved with his mother and brother to Bryan, Texas in the sixth grade. The first car he drove was a 1923 Model T Ford when he was twelve years old, using a pillow to see over the steering wheel. He dropped out of school in the tenth grade, working to support his family in the midst of The Great Depression. The first car Milton owned was a 1928 Model A Ford ?Coupe? with a rumble seat, purchased in 1934 for $85.00 and paid off at $10 per month. His salary, while working for the Agriculture Adjustment Administration was $3 per day. He was employed there from 1934-1947, leaving to work for Southern Acid and Sulphur Company, a predecessor of Agricultural Division of the Olin Corporation, where he worked until his retirement, Jan. 1, 1980. He married Zelma Dial in 1938 and moved to Little Rock in 1953. Milton, or ?Mit? as he was known by friends and family, was in the truest sense a gentleman and a gentle man, very seldom complaining about anything and most appreciative of anything that others did for him. He was a pleasure to be around because his outlook was so positive, never speaking ill of anyone. In his final years, health issues consumed a big part of his life, yet he stayed positive. The family would like to thank all that administered to his health issues. Special thanks go to his doctors: Ben Johnson, Morgan Sauer and Bruce Sanderson. Also, special thanks go to the entire staff of the Memory Center at Chenal Heights. Following a family graveside service at Roselawn on Tuesday, March 8, a memorial service will take place at 11:00 a.m. at Ruebel Funeral Home. A reception will follow the service. Arrangements under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home, www.ruebelfuneralhome.com.
