Biography: Sammie S. Willis, 88, of Sherwood, Arkansas, died peacefully in his home on Sunday, February 27, 2011. He was born on June 27, 1922 in Barnesville, Georgia to the late Cleveland B. Willis and Sudie Osborne Willis. He is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Louise Willis; grandson, Sean Bruce; sister, Elizabeth Willoughby and a brother Obie Willis. Sammie was a Staff Sergeant, serving in the 164th Engineer Battalion in the United States Army during WWII in Central Europe. He earned three bronze stars and a good conduct medal. He met his wife of 58 years, at Camp Robinson where she was a nurse, while he was recovering from injuries he sustained in Europe. He retired from Chicopee Corporation and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in North Little Rock, AR. He is survived by a son, Cleveland Scott Willis and his wife, Linda of North Little Rock, AR; a daughter, Laura Willis Bruce and husband, Lonny of McPherson, Kansas; grandchildren, Lana Bruce and Jeremy Willis; two great-grandchildren and a niece, Opal Milner of Barnesville, Georgia. The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers, Lisa and Tina from Homecare Professionals and the nurses and doctors at Arkansas Hospice. A visitation will be held at Ruebel Funeral Home on Thursday, March 3, 2011 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held at Forest Hills Memorial Park on Friday, March 4, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Rev. Larry Seiferth. Memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans, Department of Arkansas, P.O. Box 1620, North Little Rock, AR 72115. Scotty and Linda, I am sorry to hear of Sam's Passing. We know he is going to be missed but we know he is so much better off. We know he is once again united with his loving wife and free of all pain and suffering, sitting at the feet of Jesus. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this time of grief and sorrow.
