Biography: Patrick Rice Harding, of Little Rock, passed through death into life, July 24th, 2006, at St. Vincent Hospital. He was 90 years old. Mr. Harding, a lifelong resident of Little Rock, was born June 13, 1916 in Little Rock to Thomas and Mary Rice Harding. He graduated from Little Rock High School and attended the University of Notre Dame. On August 19, 1940 he married the former Lynn Liske, who pre-deceased him on July 6, 1993 after 53 years of marriage. He was also pre-deceased by a brother, Thomas Harding, who died in 2002. Mr. Harding was a highly respected independent realtor in Little Rock for more than 50 years. In recent years he was associated with Rector Phillips Morse. He held one of the longest active real estate license in Pulaski County and earned the distinction of lifetime membership in the Million Dollar Real Estate Club of Pulaski County. He continued daily trips to his office until shortly before his death. For all of his adult life, Mr. Harding maintained a close association with the Little Rock Fire Department and countless individual firefighters, most of whom are now deceased. This was a legendary tradition that was begun by his father. They frequently visited fire stations all over the city, bringing the firefighters food and spending many hours discussing issues of relevance and concern to them. As an honorary district fire chief, Mr. Harding often displayed his badge with pride. Over the years he occasionally accompanied firefighters when they responded to alarms, providing support and assistance to them whenever and however needed. Mayor Jim Dailey proclaimed September 9, 2004 Pat Harding, Sr. Day in Little Rock. Along with Little Rock Fire Chief Rhoda Mae Kerr, Mr. Harding was presented with a proclamation acknowledging and thanking the father-son team for their kindnesses to many generations of firefighters spanning more than 100 years. The ceremony was held at the old fire station in McArthur Park, which was designed by Thomas Harding. Mr. Harding was recently honored on the occasion of his 90th birthday by the firefighters of Engine 10 Company, who prepared and served a meal for him at the station. Mr. Harding was a member of Our Lady of Holy Souls Catholic Church for 60 plus years. He belonged to several professional and civic organizations including the West Little Rock Rotary Club. He was also a member of the Country Club of Little Rock. Mr. Harding is survived by two sons, Patrick Harding, Jr. and Murray Harding and wife Cindy all of Little Rock, three grandchildren; Matthew Harding of Hot Springs, Jenna Harding of Little Rock, Sarah Edington of Arkadelphia, 3 great-grandchildren; Austin, Payton and Breanna Edington. Mr. Harding’s family would like to express their deepest gratitude and appreciation to Jane Moses, her daughter Melinda Schmidt and husband Bob, Jimmy Moses and wife BJ, for their love, concern, assistance which they gave to Dad over the past 9 years. We are especially grateful to Jane, who was Dad’s best friend, traveling companion, and confidant. She was truly the light of his life. With her indomitable spirit and enthusiasm, she insisted that Dad maintain an incredible quality of life which would have otherwise been beyond his grasp. We are grateful to the staff of RPM for considering Dad an active part of their team, long after he was able to be productive. We thank the firefighters of Engine 10 and especially retired Chief Rubin Webb, for their enduring devotion to Dad and for being there for him during difficult times, most recently by visiting him in the hospital. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at Cathedral of Saint Andrews Thursday at 1:30pm, officiated by Monsignor Scott L. Marczuk, Monsignor Royce Thomas, and Monsignor John O’Donnell. Services are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home, www.ruebelfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers memorials should be sent to Fallen Firefighters Fund, P.O. Box 56470, Little Rock 72215, or to the Restoration Project Fund of the Cathedral of St. Andrews, 617 S. Louisiana, Little Rock 72201.

Enjoyed our visit the other day and wanted to offer belated condolences on the loss of your father. It certainly sounds that he was a fine father and community servant and will be missed by all with who he had contact.
