I just ran across this as I was searching for info on their 50th reunion and would like to add my condolences. I knew Gay thru my sister, Gail Bonin, who went to JHS as well as to OU with him. She would catch rides back and forth with him. I know they drifted apart after he left OU. She passed away 3 years ago. He was a great guy and I will never forget the big bear hugs he had for me whenever he came to the house. Our thoughts and prayers are with you as I know you must miss him deeply.

While it has been more than 3 years since the untimely death of George, I know that he would have been delighted by the football victory this week of OU over Alabama. He is one of the most memorable persons that I knew during a 43-year career at EPA.

I knew George during his time in Mobile. He took me and my wife flying and we met his two dogs "boomer" and "sooner" the two schnauzers. I worked with his wife at Holmes Dept store. I loved to hear George talk about Ok football and basically get his views on Auburn football...sorry to hear about his untimely passing. He was truly a great guy..

In less than 50 days, it will be 16 Dec 2012, and George Dilbeck is still remembered fondly by many people at EPA in Las Vegas.

Debra,
I want to offer my condolence to you and yours on Gay?s passing. Gay was my roommate during our second year at OU in 1966. We lost touch when he left OU, but every so often, as fond memories came to me of our college years, I?d make unsuccessful internet searches to find him in North Little Rock. I can see now why I couldn?t find him, in that he traveled far and wide. Just as during our brief year of friendship, I read in the other comments here that he was a wonderful influence on all he met. He always made sure he got his studies done, always mentioning that his folks were paying a lot to make sure he had an education. But we had fun as well. We shared many great games of billiards at the campus hangouts and card games that usually ended when someone had to hit the books. He sure had a fun side, but he was very, very kind and respectful. I pray you are continually comforted in our Lord and in the fond memories we all share of our friendship with Gay.

Dear Family of Professor George Dilbeck,

My name is Kenya Harris and I am one of Professor Dilbecks former students. I was just recently informed about Professor Dilbeck's passing and it was very saddening news. I am very sorry for your loss and i just wanted to share some kind words to you all since Professor Dilbeck was so kind to me. I just started attending Troy University-Montgomery last fall and this is my 2nd attempt at recieving a bachelors degree. He made my first semester a great one and I wanted to share a kind email that he wrote to me just before he passed away:

Date: Mon Dec 6 13:36:06 CST 2010
From: Add To Address Book
Subject: Your Chemistry Laboratory Grade
To: Kenya Harris

Hi Kenya:

I got all of the laboratory final tests graded and I wanted to tell you that you made an A in the course. You made a 99 on the final and your average was excellent.

I really enjoyed having you in class this fall and I hope that you will keep in touch. If you ever need anything that I can help you with, please do not hesitate to contact me. You made my class a lot of fun to teach and I truly wish I had more students like you. Take care Kenya and I wish you the best of luck in whatever field you choose to pursue.

George Dilbeck!!!

I told all of my family about this because he made me feel so proud and really motivated me to keep working hard. I will forever have fond memories of him and cherish the kind words of encouragement he gave me. I'm so happy to have met him and he will be missed.

May God bless you and keep you in this somber time of loss. George was a very dear friend of mine. Not too long ago, my family and I shared dinner with him here in Atlanta. He always spoke highly of you. Losing someone dear to you is extraordinarily difficult. As we reflect on the great times we shared--we mourn the loss of not being able to sharer more. We will continue to pray for you that the Lord Jesus Christ fills your heart with peace.

My sincere condolences in your loss. George helped us greatly in the Radiochemistry area when I started in this field about 12 years ago. We would talk from time to time and had not communicated for about a year. He was a great help to us and a very consistent person, as others have stated. He will be missed in the scientific community.

I would like to echo the comments on this page about George. I worked in the same building as he did in the EPA in Las Vegas. I don't think I ever saw him without a smile on his face. I enjoyed talking to him about college football, and I would kid him, if the Sooners didn't win. We all missed him here, when he moved to Alabama, and we are all shocked at his premature passing. May he rest in peace... Don

I never saw Gay after high school but he is always one of the first folks I think of when wandering down memory lane. Pleased but not at all surprised to learn that Gay continued to do well after high school and that he positively influenced so many throughout his life. He was a good friend.

Deb - I am so sorry to hear about George. We worked together for many years at the Health Department. He was the most kind and generous person I know. He was always there with a smile, a hug and a joke no matter what the situation. I'll miss his e-mails and tacky comments. He was a great person. May you find comfort in knowing that he talked about you all the time. He loved you very much and kept you on a pedestal.

He will be greatly missed.

Debra, I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your brother. He was a friend for life to everyone he touched and will forever live on in our memories.
Gay, was in my class from the 7th grade through the 12th grade.
After graduation we all drifted apart but every time I ran into someone from JHS I always asked about Gay.
He was not only the smartest, nicest and best looking guys at JHS, I thought of him as a friend for live. May God Bless you and your family during this time.

Debbie:
Sorry to hear about Gay, he was a class guy and obviously did well in his life (he got a great foundation from his Jacksonville days!).
I don't know if I will be able to make the visitation or service, but I will try to do so.
Coach Buchanan called me last night and said that they were going out of town today but to pass on his sympathy since they would not be able to attend his service.

Gay Dilbeck was one of the sweetest, nicest, and kindest guys in the whole world. I will always remember our trips to Vegas where we would meet up with Gay and he was either taking us somewhere or buying us dinner or trying to explain to me the fine art of betting on football. He was just that special kind of person that everyone should have as a friend. My heart hurts and he will forever be missed. Debra, you are in my thoughts and prayers! Luv ya...mean it!
