Biography: Shirley Mavis Fairburn Ebert was born on December 9th, 1918 in Lowell, Massachusetts to George C. Fairburn and Beulah Sturtevant Fairburn. She died December 3, 2010, age 91, in Little Rock, Arkansas. She attended Simmons College and received her RN degree in nursing from Boston Children?s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. After working as a pediatric nurse in Boston, she joined the Harvard Unit, Fifth General Hospital. She served four years during WWII in the Army Nurse Corps with a final rank of captain. She was stationed in England and France. She married Dr. Richard V. Ebert in 1947 and was married 49 years until his death on July 22, 1996. They raised their five children in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota and Little Rock. She volunteered at the St. Paul Planned Parenthood and the College Station, AR Head Start as well as at the Stewpot Ministry of Trinity Episcopal Church of Little Rock. She was an early member of the Unitarian Fellowship of Little Rock. She is survived by her five children, Dr. Michael (Ellen) Ebert of Guilford, Connecticut, Richard (Shih Yun Tuan) Ebert, Jr. of West Fork, AR, Constance Ebert of St. Paul, MN, Susan Ebert of Minneapolis, MN and Dr. Robert (Margaret) Ebert of Little Rock. She also leaves 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She was loved by many and will be dearly missed.
