Biography: Susan Esther Forsyth Bauman was born on July 1, 1950 and died November 6, 2010 after a brave battle with cancer. She was predeceased by her parents Ruth and Morris Forsyth of New Orleans, her aunts Florence Marx of Bogalusa and Anna Mayer of New Jersey, and Bobby and Bud Bauman of Little Rock who were always Mom and Dad to her. She is survived by her brother, J. David Forsyth of New Orleans, and her children, Annie Bauman of Little Rock and Rabbi Katie Bauman and her husband Adam Eckstein of Memphis, and she was the proud Grammy of Gracie Ruth Eckstein. She is also survived by a large extended family including Jill and Steve Bauman, Kathy and Dr. David Bauman, Judy Grundfest and her family, and Suzi Davis, all of Little Rock, Merrill and Michael Stern of Atlanta, Sally and Morris Marx of Pensacola and their children, as well as many cousins. Susan was the aunt of Jay Bauman, Barrie Bauman and her fiancé Cole Silverman, Lisa Stern Fay and her husband Alex, and Jenny Stern Adair and her husband Jordan. Susan was a lifelong teacher, for the last fourteen years at Forest Park Elementary School. One of her great joys was being a part of a warm community of educators, parents, and especially students, whom she always considered herself privileged to teach. She was happiest surrounded by family and friends, and sustaining her relationships with these loved ones was her most cherished life’s work. She was deeply thankful to her caretakers, nurses, and doctors, especially Patricia Pickett, Terri Ruffin, Dr. Mariann Harrington, and Dr. David Bauman, who were with her every step of the way. She will be remembered as an exemplary hostess, a committed teacher, a steadfast friend, and most of all a beloved sister and mother. Susan was proud to call both Little Rock and New Orleans her homes, and she will be memorialized in both cities. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 9 at 3:30pm at Congregation B’nai Israel in Little Rock, her congregation of 26 years, 3700 N. Rodney Parham Road. Burial will take place at Hebrew Rest Cemetery in New Orleans on Friday, November 12. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to HandsOn New Orleans, www.handsonneworleans.org, or to HIPPY USA (Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters), www.hippyusa.org. Arrangements by Ruebel Funeral Home, www.ruebelfuneralhome.com.

I've known Susan since Miss Susan days at Westover Hills. She was such a fun, warm, and loving person. It was so great when she got her job at Forest Park and followed so many of her students and parents there. We always caught up on what our kids were up to at Kroger, where we would invariably run into each other. She was so proud of her girls. My condolences to her family and all of her friends. We have lost a very good and special person.

I just found out that Susan had lost her battle with cancer and I just want to cry. Susan worked with me at Westover Hills Preschool and was such a dynamic teacher, person, and friend. She was always professional, personable, and loving to us all. I learned so much from her by her example. My heart misses her and I am so sorry that more children of Little Rock will not be able to benefit from her as their teacher. My prayers go to her darling daughters, Annie and Katie, and the rest of her family. I know she will be hugely missed. With much sympathy and love, Leta Strother Jones

We are saddened to hear of "Miss Bauman's" passing. She was a wonderful teacher and lady. We will remember her smile and gentleness. Our daughter, Anna Claire, loved her and was blessed to have her for a Pre-K teacher. Our son, James, didn't have her, but thought she was awesome. Our prayers are with her family.

Arin and Ashley were truly blessed to have had Ms. Bauman as their Pre-K teacher. She was the very first teacher they had ever had and what a blessing she was to them. She taught them lifelong lessons that will never be forgotten. The girls absolutely loved her and wanted to go back to Pre-K for at least 3 yrs after they had moved on to the next grade. Ms. Bauman will be "TRULY MISSED" by our family.

We were fortunate to have gotten to know Susan through our daughters, Su-Lauren and Katie, spending most of their childhood school days together. We send prayers and love to the girls.

Three of my four children were privileged to have been under Susan's tremendous wings. "Miss Bauman" was such a source of comfort and encouragement to our entire family and we are very grateful to have been blessed by her guidance, patience and abundant love.

Hearing Susan's fight had ended literally took my breath away. From the time we met ten years ago, Susan served as a personal goal I strived to achieve in the world of PreK. She will always be known as the best of the best to me and will be sadly missed.

I offer my condolances to Susan's family. I had the priviledge of becoming acquainted with Susan a few years ago because of my employment with the Little Rock School District Early Childhood program. She was an inspiration to children and her co-workers. She will be missed.

Susan fought a very courageous battle and is now at peace. I will miss her sweet smile and her positive attitude. Her love for her family and all the "children" she helped enter school will always be remembered.
