Biography: Virginia Rupprecht Christian, of Little Rock, died Sunday, July 23, 2006, at St. Vincent Infirmary. She was born on February 6, 1919 in New Brunswick, New Jersey, to John Henry and Marie Waelde Rupprecht. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband of nearly sixty years, John Douglas Christian, Sr. She is survived by her children, John Douglas Christian, Jr., Lee-Ann and Mitch Jansonius, all of Little Rock: her granddaughters Jessica Johnson of Magnet Cove, Ail Douberly of Hot Springs, and Becca Harrell of Sherwood; and six great-grandchildren. She held a bachelor's degree in home economics with an emphasis in fashion design from Douglas College, now a part of Rutgers University. After graduation, she worked for a time in New York as a fashion buyer. Mrs. Christian was a longtime member of Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church. There, she sat on many boards and committees, including her service as the first female president of the church's Official Board. She was very active in United Methodist Women, once serving as head of its School of Missions. In addition to her primary interests of caring for her family and her church work, she held memberships in several civic clubs including the Twentieth Century Club, Pulaski Heights Mothers Club, Questers, the Arkansas Quilters Guild, and the Bernina Sewing Club. A memorial service will be held at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2006 Memorials may be made to either Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church or to the Arkansas Food Bank Network.
