Biography: A. Thomas (Tom) Johnson, 88, of Little Rock, died Thursday, October 28, 2010. He was born September 28, 1922, in Paxton, Illinois to the late Charles and Lillian Johnson. Tom was a life long airplane and flight enthusiast. He was so enraptured by flight as a child that he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps before Pearl Harbor. He served with distinction in the Southwest Pacific Area during WWII, achieving the rank of corporal, and was a photogunner on a B-25. He served on Guadalcanal, New Guinea, the Philippines, and on other campaigns. Tom was the first news cameraman at KTHV channel 11 and worked for the other networks as well. His career was spent in television and photography filming a number of momentous Arkansas historical events. His love of aviation led to his restoring a WWI Sopwith Camel that now hangs from the ceiling at the Arkansas Aerospace Education Center. He is survived by his wife Bettye Johnson and numerous friends in the flight and photography fields and his church family at Pulaski Heights Presbyterian Church. A graveside memorial service will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park on Monday, November 1, 2010 at 10 a.m., officiated by Rev. Ruskin Falls.
