Biography: Gary Lyle Hill, “Greasey” to his friends, died Friday, July 21, 2006, at UAMS Hospital. Gary was born in Boonville, Missouri, to Palmer Lewis and Lena Grigsby Hill, on September 30, 1937. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Donna Jean Rodebush. Gary is survived by his life partner, Jerry Ann Hill, of Little Rock, AR; his three constant companions, Gertrude, Luther, and Hilda; Ronald and Dorcas Hill; Kelly and Alan Tillery, all of Springfield, MO; Mark, Sherry, and Cassie Rodebush, of Round Rock, TX; David, Susan, Palmer and Sydney Hill, of McKinney, TX; Deborah, Shane and Wesley Scott, of Riverside, CA; and a host of very special friends from here and around the world. Gary graduated from Central High School and Southwest Missouri State University, in Springfield, Missouri. During his college years he served in the Navy Reserve and worked his way through school at the family owned Hills What-A-Burger. Upon graduation, he taught Spanish at Neosho High School before attending Kansas University, where he received a Masters in Spanish Theater and Mathematics, while working as an assistant instructor of Spanish. From 1958-1963, he attended the University of Guanajuato, Mexico, where he was the Assistant Registrar of summer school and taught Spanish. Gary joined Jacuzzi in 1964 and traveled the world. In 1973, Jacuzzi transferred Gary and Jerry to Africa, where they lived for six years. In 1980, Gary was named President of Jacuzzi International and retired in 1986. Gary did international consulting for AMW Industries, Aermotor, Midsouth Pump Company, and J-Line Pump Company before retiring from the water industry. In 1995 he helped form a real estate company with Jerry and Rusty Armstrong which became ERA Armstrong Team REALTORS and at his death he was a partner and financial consultant for the company. Gary was appointed to the Arkansas District Export Council by three different Secretaries of State. He served on the first ADFA’s Board, the first Arkansas Biomedical Board at UAMS and the board of directors of Jacuzzi Mexico. A friend once said, “If someone asked you to name the perfect job, I would tell them it’s Gary Hill’s. He got to travel the world first class, eat gourmet food, drink good whiskey, and live life to the fullest.” A special thanks to Dr. Richard Rowe, Chris Field and the caring staff at UAMS, Dr. Sunder Krishnan and Dr. George Holitik. A private service will be held for family and close personal friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to MDA, Jackson T. Stephens Spine Center at UAMS, Beebe Humane Society, and any Democratic candidate of your choice.

Sorry to hear of Gary's passing. When we were younger and foolish, along with Fred Ralls and others, we invented a new form of fun ... the end of something very special.

I was a classmate of Gary's at CHS, Springfield. Many years later Gary was helpful to me, as an architect, in finding a pump supplier for projects in the Chicago area. I truly enjoyed talking to Gary in the later years and have missed his attending reunions in Springfield.

I worked with Gary at Jacuzzi in the late 70s and early 80s. Everyone there always waited for Gary to return from his trips. He would tell us stories of his travels that would make us all laugh and feel as if we were there ourselves. He would often laugh so hard himself he would have tears in his eyes. A laugh that will be truly missed. He was such a joy to be around and to work with.
