Biography: Herschel A. Bowman, Sr., 92, of Little Rock, lost his tough fight with lung cancer, on August 19, 2010 and an angel of the Lord led him Home. He was predeceased by his parents Carle Voss and James Earl Bowman, Sr., his brother Earl Bowman, his first wife Selma Porbeck Bowman, and his second wife Rose Richardson Bowman. Herschel served in the U. S. Army Air Corps in WW II. He was in the real estate business for several years after getting out of the Army. In 1945, he started buying Army surplus items from Camp Robinson, and selling these items in his backyard in Little Rock. Shortly afterwards, he started H.A. Bowman & Company a retail office furniture business that operated in Little Rock until 1988. He was an avid outdoorsman and golfer, but most of all he was a generous loving father to his four children. He is survived by his son, Herschel A. Bowman, Jr. of Sherwood, his three daughters Carole Cook and husband Charlie of Hot Springs, Gayle Gall and husband Robert “Butch” of Hot Springs, and Christie Bowman of Little Rock. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren; Michelle Bowman, Chuck Cook (Katy), Georgia May (Craig), Cathey Henry (Robert), Dr. Walter Gall, Sean Bowman, Zach Bowman (Janna). He was the proud great grandfather of ten great grandchildren. Ellie Cook, Elizabeth Henry, Graham Gall, Caroline Henry, Maggie Gall, Ashley Henry, Charlie Bowman Cook, Lawson Bowman May, Madison Bowman, Mallory May. He is also survived by his devoted sweetheart, and the love of his life Sara Meeks. The family sincerely thanks Dr. Joe Beck, St. Vincent North Rehab Center, Hospice Home Care Inpatient Center, and Dr. David Liu. Herschel was a member of First United Methodist Church of Little Rock, the Faulkner Sunday School Class, Kappa Sigma fraternity and Pleasant Valley Country Club for many years. There will be a memorial service held Sunday, August 22, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. at Ruebel Funeral Home, www.ruebelfuneralhome.com.
