Biography: Gregory Louis Yeatman, of Little Rock died Monday, July 19, 2010, at the age of 52, following a six-month heroically-fought battle with cancer. He was born February 4, 1958, in Fayetteville, Arkansas, and was the son of Janice Ross Yeatman of Little Rock, and the late Robert Louie Yeatman. Greg was a life-long resident of Little Rock, except for his extensive travels and adventures throughout the world. Greg was an honor graduate from Parkview High School in 1976, where he was a Student Council leader, a debate team contender, and on the tennis team. He was an Eagle Scout, an Explorer Scout, and a member of the Quapaw Council Order of the Arrow. During the summers of his high school years, Greg worked for the Youth Conservation Corps at Mt. Magazine, and was a guide at Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico. Following graduation from high school, Greg attended Southwestern College (now Rhodes) in Memphis, Tennessee, where he was awarded the Outstanding Sophomore distinction and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics. He then attended Georgia Tech University, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering. Following graduation from Georgia Tech, Greg worked for Garver and Garver Engineers in Little Rock and became a Professional Engineer, before becoming engaged to the former Virginia Marr of Memphis, Tennessee. Greg accepted an engineering position with the American Samoan Government, and he and Virginia lived in Pago Pago, Samoa until 1985. After traveling extensively, to Australia, New Zealand and Nepal, Greg and Virginia returned to make Little Rock their home. Greg then worked for an environmental waste disposal company, before obtaining his law degree from the University of Arkansas School of Law at Little Rock. He practiced law with Chisenhall, Nestrud & Julian, then was a founding partner with the firm of James, Yeatman & Sherman, and later founded his own law firm of Yeatman & Associates, where he specialized in environmental related legal work. He oversaw the acquisition and implementation of numerous facilities of Waste Management Incorporated and was recognized as an expert in the area of environmentally-safe waste product disposal. Greg was a life-long supporter of the Boy Scouts of America, serving as Scout Master for his son Chris’s troop and on the Board of the Quapaw Council for a number of years. Following in his father’s footsteps, Greg was an avid outdoorsman and hunter. He raised his children upon that same tradition, teaching both to duck hunt at a very early age at his beloved Crockett’s Bluff duck club. At his urging, his family also enjoyed many camping, canoeing, mountain climbing and hiking trips in the Arkansas Ozark and Ouachita Mountains, the Colorado Rockies, and the Appalachian Mountains. Another fond family get-away was the remote island of Man-o-War Cay, in the Bahamian Abaco Islands. Greg was preceded in death by his father, Robert Louie Yeatman, and his grandparents, Harvey and Sally Ross and Loua and Lydia Yeatman of Crossett, Arkansas. He is survived by Virginia Marr Yeatman and his children, Carrie Ellen Yeatman and Christopher Louis Yeatman, of Little Rock; his sister Dana Yeatman Baldwin and her husband Pat of Tulsa; his brother Ross A. Yeatman and his wife Holly of Fayetteville; and nephew Jake Baldwin and niece Katie Yeatman. He is also survived by his special family, Graves and Cheryl Hearnsberger, and their daughters Allie and Erin. A memorial service will be held at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church on Thursday August, 12, 2010 at 11 a.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Arkansas Hospice Foundation, 5800 West 12th Street, Little Rock, AR 72204 or at www.arkansashospice.org. Arrangements are being handled by Ruebel Funeral Home.www.ruebelfuneralhome.com

Hello Virginia and family,
I just learned of Greg's cancer and death from a fellow Mt. Magazine YCC camp attender. We were there working together in 1972 or '73. I didn't know all of these things about Greg's accomplishments with the Boy Scouts and what an excellent student he was. I am so amazed at the wonderful, exciting life that you have shared as he has worked here and in other parts of the world. Your loss is great and I am so sorry you had to say goodbye to him so early in life. Please know that my heartfelt sympathy is with you.

My deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Greg. I was a member and advisor of Post 8 in the mid/late-70's, and I remember Greg well from campouts, float trips, and the White River canoe race. A wonderful young man, I am sure that he was also a wonderful father and husband. You and the world have lost a wonderful human being.

Dear Yeatman family: I was saddened to hear of Greg's death. We were in the same graduation class at Parkview. I enjoyed his wit and wry observations in speech and drama class. He was universally liked and was always kind to all.We briefly attended the same church in the '90s, and it was nice to catch up as adults after so long. The world seems a smaller and colder place without him, for he was a good man. Your family's in my thoughts and prayers.

Virginia, Ellen, and Chris,

Please know that you are in our prayers. I didn't know Greg was ill. I do know how terribly difficult it is when a loved one has cancer and my heart goes out to you. Greg was a very proud father.....I can see him cheering Ellen and Chris's soccer teams!

Dear Janice and Family,
I was so sorry to read of Greg's passing. In reading his obituary it was quite apparent that he followed in his father's footsteps. His father, Bob, was an extraordinarily fine man, and he would have been very proud of Greg's many involvements and accomplishments. (I was a partner of Bob Yeatman at Crist Engineers.)

So very sorry to hear about Greg's loss. We were very close a long time ago in Scouts, particularly OA, were we did everything together. Greg and I drove to Philmont together his first time on staff and I was proud to have my friend from home as part of the staff. He was a great Philmont Staff Association Member over the years and we caught up there every so often. Bob was also a special mentor for me and I remember how he would take both of us to do all the OA projects (especially the "dance team")and he was our adviser in all our scouting efforts. On behalf of all the Palnick family who knew him, our sincerest condolences. The world has lost one of the really neat good guys. Lazar

To Aunt Janice,Dana,Ross,Ellen,Chris and Virginia,
I want to express my most sincere sympathy. We have all lost a very special member of our family.
Unfortunately times like this make us realize the mistakes we make by not making it to all the reunions and family gathering. I'll make a better effort in the future.
I was thinking today that I don't remember a time when Greg wasn't in my life atleast from a distance. He was one the most accomplished people I have ever known. I am truely honored that he was my cousin.
May the Lord bless and keep all of you, Kaye

I remember sitting in a restaurant in LR circa 1990 with Greg, Virginia and a friend of mine from El Dorado named Susie. Greg was talking about issues related to a chemical plant near El Dorado. It was a client of his, and a female senior citizen down there was an active and vocal thorn for them. Susie then quietly piped up: "that's my grandma" ... after a pregnant pause we all laughed at that revelation - and no one laughed harder than Greg ... He had many wonderful qualities. Sorry for your loss.

To my Aunt Janice, Cousin-in-law Virginia, & cousins Ellen, & Chris: I pray for strength & endurance for each of you in the weeks & months to come, as you go forward w/o Greg. He was my first little cousin, & will always hold a special place in my heart. They say not regret things, but this I do. I wish I had been able to be present at more of the special moments in all your lives. A person truly does not understand what s/he is missing until it is too late. Believe me when I tell you I love each of you with all my heart. ~Linda Anne
