I had the pleasure of serving with Charlie aboard the USS Kearsarge in 1962-63. It was only for a short time, about a year, I think, but it was long enough for me to consider him a friend. He became "B"(Boilers) Division Officer shortly after I reported aboard. When he left the ship, I took over his job. He was my mentor and friend and it saddened me to learn from a mutual friend that he had passed away. Bob Riddle

I always enjoyed being in the company of Charles. He had a great sense of humor and a wonderful heart. He always went out of his way to visit with me and that really meant a lot to me. He will always be loved, remembered of course missed. My thoughts and prayers are with his awesome wife Sheila!

Dear Sheila and family,

I am so sad to hear of your loss. I was friends with Charles through Second Presbyterian Church when he first moved to Little Rock. He was a kind and personable person. And, he had a true appreciation and gift for music. I would see Charles occasionally after I changed churches and his sweet smile always lifted my spirits. I mourn your loss with you.

Every time I hear the wonderful piccolo obligatto in the trio of Sousa's "Stars and Strips Forever," I think of Charlie, his goodwill, and the twinkle in his eye.

I have very fond memories of Charlie at Rice and during our NROTC summer cruise together in '58. Charlie was a true friend and I'll miss him at our Golden Year Rice Homecoming this October.

May he rest in peace. Amen

Sheila, please accept our deepest condolences. Charlie was a close friend at Rice through five years in the Navy ROTC and Rice Band. It was a pleasure being able to renew our friendship during a visit to Connecticut and later--about 10 years ago--in Little Rock. It was fun getting to hear a band concert and to see his enthusiastic participation in the performance.

I had the privilage of being a mechanical engineering classmate at Rice with Charlie. There was only about a dozen of us in the graduating class so we knew each other quite well. We enjoyed visiting with him and Sheila at the 45th class reunion and have some great photos of remembrance.

May you be comforted in remembrance of the many good deeds that Charlie "lived' with family and community.

May the Lord comfort you every day.

I enjoyed playing in the Rice Band with Charlie and seeing him at Class of 1960 reunions.
