He chaired the committee which in 1969 erected a major statue of John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, in downtown Savannah, Georgia. In the late 1940s he served as a member of the organizing committee for the establishment of Epworth By The Sea, a United Methodist retreat center at Saint Simons Island, Georgia. A memorial service is planned for Wednesday, June 2, 10:00 a.m., in the sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church of Little Rock. A reception will be held following the service.
