Biography: Mary Ellen Dieter Arnold, age 86, of Little Rock died Sunday April 18, 2010. She was born May 9, 1923 in Pablo, Montana to the late Michael John and Carrie Ainsworth Dieter. She graduated high school in Pontiac, Michigan. During World War II, she joined the U.S. Army and became an X-ray technician serving at the military hospital in Brigham City, Utah where she obtained the rank of Tech-Sergeant. After the war she married Fred E. Arnold, Jr., June 8, 1946. They both attended Washington University, Mary taking courses in anthropology and art history while Fred received his Masters Degree in Architecture. They moved to Little Rock in 1947 raising six children. Mary was a founding member of Christ The King Catholic Church where she was involved with the Catholic Interracial Council, volunteered with the Helping Hands, the Little Rock Y.W.C.A. and volunteered as a remedial reading instructor at Scott. She loved water aerobics, animals, gardening, and was a devoted mother. Mary is pre-deceased by her husband Fred E. Arnold, Jr. who died in March of 2000 and sisters, Verna Turner, Pauline Bays and Eva Bays. She is survived by her six children; Mary Katherine Arnold Hallock and husband Don, of Honolulu, Hawaii, William Fredrick Arnold and wife Judy of Kansas City, Kansas, Michael John Arnold of Little Rock, David Robert Arnold and wife Stephanie of Little Rock, Paul Raymund Arnold and wife Andrea of Olympia, Washington, Joseph Lee Arnold and wife Jean of Salt Lake City, Utah; 7 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank Mary’s private care givers and the staff of Arkansas Hospice for their wonderful assistance. Visitation will be at Ruebel Funeral Home on Monday, April 26, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. with a Rosary to begin at 7:00 p.m. recited by The Very Rev. Msgr. Francis I. Malone. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at Christ The King Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Rev. Msgr. Richard S. Oswald. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
