Biography: Clodus “Claude” Ray Massey, 83, of Avilla Community, Saline County, passed away April 3, 2010 at his home. He was born at Amity, Clark County, Arkansas, October 14, 1926, to the late Donald Massey and Velvie Findley Massey. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He attended Draughon’s Radio School, and worked in electronics until he retired. For several years he played semi-pro baseball for Spann’s Esso as a pitcher. He loved hunting, fishing, gardening, and bee keeping. He also loved bluegrass fiddle and guitar music with friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son Bennie Ray Massey. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, LaVerne Dixon Massey; daughters, Patricia Johnson and husband Jack of Rogers, Arkansas, Rita Mobbs and husband John, sons; Gary Randall Massey and Steven Alan Massey and wife Darla, all of Little Rock; one brother, Edward Lee Massey and wife Inez of Amity, Arkansas; sisters, Evelyn Louise Sorrells of Amity and Donna Huffman of Sheridan; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. There will be a visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Tuesday April 6, at Ruebel Funeral Home followed by a graveside service Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Jones Cemetery in Amity, Arkansas, officiated by Pastor Jim Hudson.
