Biography: Dorothy Pierce Quinn, of Little Rock, passed through this world between November 11, 1925 and March 24, 2010, on her way to spend eternity with her Heavenly Father. “Dot” had been ill for several years, a victim of Alzheimer’s disease, and was residing in Atlanta, GA near daughter Jan Mitchell and family at the time of her death. Dorothy was born to Clifton and Inez Pierce in Fountain Hill, AR; grew up around Hamburg and Crossett, AR; then lived in Little Rock with husband John L. Quinn, for over 60 years where they had been founding members of Gaines Street Baptist Church, later to become known as Olivette Baptist Church. She and John were very active as Young People Department Directors at Tyler Street Baptist Church before moving to NW Little Rock and becoming members of First Baptist Church and, later, Immanuel Baptist. Dorothy was an active homemaker, mother to two (Jan and Johnny), grandmother to six (Rob, Neal, Shelli, Michael, Kelli and JT), and great-grandmother to ten cherished Mitchells and Quinns scattered throughout Missouri, North Carolina, and Georgia. Married for 58 years to John, Dorothy was frequently the volunteer “Homeroom Mother”, “field trip driver”, and “party chaperone” for her children’s classes at Franklin Elementary, Southwest Jr. High, and Little Rock Central High School. She was also an avid Razorback fan for many, many years, following the football team to all of the Texas campuses in the old Southwest Conference. Dorothy is survived by one brother, J.C. Pierce of Oklahoma City; daughter Janice Mitchell and her husband Don of Atlanta, GA; and son Johnny Quinn and his wife Elaine of Fayetteville, AR; six grandchildren (who loved their Mam-Maw’s chicken-n-dumplings & icebox pies); and ten great grandchildren. While the family deeply grieves its loss, we celebrate her renewal through Jesus Christ. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Ruebel Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Friday evening at Ruebel Funeral Home from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, friends consider making a donation toward research for a cure to Alzheimer’s disease. www.ruebelfuneralhome.com
