Biography: Ernest Hankins, 86, of Little Rock, died Wednesday afternoon at Arkansas Hospice. He was born in Warren, Arkansas in 1923. A graduate of Warren High School, he joined the Air Force and served as a navigator. He then enrolled at Hendrix College and earned a bachelor degree in business. He would later establish a successful interior design business in Houston Texas. He was the primary designer for the Warwick Hotel in Houston, and the luxury suites in the New Orleans Superdome, when the Saints were owned by Texas oil man John Mecom. Ernest is survived by four children: Randy of Little Rock, and Phil of Hot Springs; Kathy Kelly of Little Rock and Leslee Parker of Carlisle. He has five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, February 2, 2010, 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, in Little Rock, officiated by The Very Reverend Jonathon Jensen. Ernie was a dear friend to me and so many others during his years in New Orleans. I cannot count the times his dry wit gave us all a great laugh. But beyond that, he was a true gentleman. He will be sorely missed.
