Biography: Jack M. Ferguson, 94, of Little Rock, traveled many miles during his career and his lifetime. On December 8, 2009 he took his final “road trip” and is now in heaven playing baseball with his friends. Born on February 6, 1915 to Jewel Arthur and Margaret Hilburn Ferguson in Tuscumbia, Alabama, Jack left the life of a country boy and moved to Washington, D.C. when he was 19 years old to take a job as messenger with the Securities and Exchange Commission. During this time he attended night school at George Washington University. Jack quickly advanced in his job and had a very rewarding career as a pioneer in the inception of the Securities and Exchange Commission, where he and his colleagues established many of the charters and by-laws which are still in place today. Jack was instrumental in the investigation of the Tucker Automobile case during his tenure with the SEC. He later moved to Arkansas and joined the Federal Home Loan Bank of Little Rock as Senior Vice President and Supervisory Agent. For twenty-five years he served with a unique combination of judgment, determination, sincerity, warmth and good humor. He retired in August 1983 when the bank moved to Dallas. Jack’s passion and favorite pastime was sports. He played golf and at one time held the course record at Bethesda Country Club in Maryland. He loved baseball and as a child played sandlot ball in Helen Keller’s backyard. He coached TPA at Lamar Porter Field in Little Rock throughout the 1960’s. Jack was an avid Alabama Crimson Tide fan !!! … always and forever… Roll Tide Roll! Although Jack also loved the Razorbacks, it was a rough day at the Ferguson home when Arkansas played Alabama in any sport! He was an excellent bridge player too and loved to play cards on the internet. Jack had a way of greeting everyone like they were the most special person he had every met. He loved his family unconditionally and made each and every family member believe that they were his very favorite! His wife called him “Mr. Lucky” because he loved his life and his family. He once got to meet and play golf with Arnold Palmer, he had breakfast with Conrad Hilton, was invited and attended a presidential dinner, met Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward, sat behind President Nixon at the 1969 Arkansas/Texas football game, received hugs from Frank Sinatra … all just by lucky circumstance!! Jack was preceded in death by his wife and the mother of his son, Jean Dexter Ferguson and is survived by his wife Betty Godbold Ferguson; his son, John David Ferguson; and four daughters, Sally Van Dyke, Tricia Watkins, Betty Lea Johnson and Mari Alice Sence; grandchildren, Jack Henry, Sarah Dexter, Katie, Patrick, Sarah, Rachael, Josh, Mary Beth, JoBeth, and David. The family would like to thank his many caregivers at Parkway Village and Baptist Hospital ICU-South, especially Marsha Cunningham and her staff, Dr. Claudia Tolleson, Dr. Ira Gershner, Lisa Iimberough, The Visiting Angels and Sondra. A funeral service will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the Ruebel Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Reverend Park Moore, with burial following at Rest Hills Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Pulaski County Humane Society. Arrangements under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home. www.ruebelfuneralhome.com.

Remembering it like it was yesterday, the hard ground balls he hit to us at practice at Lamar Porter on TPA 40 years ago. Thanks for the memories.

Jack was the most sincere and fun-loving person I have ever known. I worked for him for 12 years at the Federal Home Loan Bank of Little Rock. He will be missed by all who knew him.
