Biography: Peggy Duke Fitzhugh, 87, of Little Rock, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, November 22, 2009. She was born on January 28, 1922 at her grandmother's home near Okolona, Arkansas, to the late Chester and Ethel Bobo Duke. She was preceded in death by her husband Benjamin Franklin Fitzhugh, Jr., and her brother Calvin Duke. She grew up in El Dorado, Arkansas, and attended Henderson State University in Arkadelphia. On May 14, 1944, she married Frank Fitzhugh, and they eventually moved to Little Rock which became their home. Peggy was a homemaker most of her adult life. She was a long-time member of Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and was active in the Circle for many years as well as volunteering in the church office. She was also a member of a book club, garden club and two bridge clubs for many years. Her greatest joy, however, was being with her family. She will be remembered for her warm and compassionate spirit and the way she always put others before herself. She is a testament to living well with diabetes, having taken daily insulin shots for 70 years. She is survived by two daughters, Rebecca Lynn Fitzhugh of Little Rock, and Jennifer Fitzhugh Smiley and husband Walter of Little Rock; and nephews, Reverend Jeff Duke of Louisiana, Tommy Janes of Prescott, Arkansas, Jerry Janes of Hamburg, Arkansas and Porter Shults of Tulsa, Oklahoma. A memorial service will be held at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Reverend Jeff Hampton. There will be a private burial at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
