Biography: Betty Rosalea Wassell Hill of Portola Valley, California, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2008 and joins her beloved husband John. Betty was born on December 12, 1927 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Herbert Lynn Wassell and Ethel Rosalea Newman. Betty attended public schools in Little Rock and graduated from Bennett College in New York. Upon returning to Little Rock, she worked for the Arkansas Gazette contributing to the society page. She met John C. Hill, architect in Little Rock and Married. In 1954, Betty and John moved to Palo Alto, California to design Stanford Hospital. While raising their two children John and Lynne in Los Altos Hills, Betty was active volunteering with the Cantor Art Center at Stanford, Palo Alto Junior League and Filoli. She worked for twenty five years with the real estate firm of Cornish and Carey. Betty traveled extensively to enhance her love of art, theatre, music and people. She loved to dance, play bridge, relished social events and could hold a conversation with anyone on any subject. Betty loved Lake Tahoe and as a young family, the Hills spent much time there at their summer home. Passing the love of Tahoe along to the family, Betty traveled often to the lake to spend summers, Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays with her children and grandchildren. Betty is survived by her son John C. Hill of Carmel and daughter Lynne Gibeson of Lake Tahoe. She was blessed with five grandchildren; J.C. Hill, Paige Hill, Klint Volk, Hunter Volk and Tucker Volk. Betty also leaves behind her brother-in- law, C.B. Wheeler of Texarkana, Texas, her sister-in-law Carol Wassell Bridges of Little Rock, Arkansas, nephew, and nieces Dr. David Wassell of Little Rock, Kelly Wassell of Chicago, Illinois, and Anne Wheeler of Austin, Texas. Betty was predeceased by her husband John, son Huntersfield Hill, and brother Lynn Wassell. The family wishes to acknowledge the wonderful staff of the Sequoias.
