Biography: Friday, September 25th at noon, Jessie Ankeny, of Little Rock, lost her 12 year battle with breast cancer. She will be missed. Jessie was a fierce person. She had strong convictions and stood by them without hesitation. Jessie was the quintessential defender of the underdog. She never met an animal she didn’t love. She rescued many. She was a loyal friend. Those who knew her, remember her for the person that would stand with them against the world. She knew no fear when it came to those she loved. Jessie grew up in Powder River Wyoming where she learned to love animals and care for everyone. She graduated from Natrona County High School in Casper in 1968. She received a BS in Psychology and JD from the University of Wyoming. She had fond memories of her law school class. They threw a kegger for Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Conner. Jessie loved Wyoming and returned often to enjoy her home state. She spent 10 years in New Orleans and grew to love the Big Easy. Jessie lived her last 15 years in or near Little Rock Arkansas with her husband and a menagerie of pets. Jessie was a senior attorney for Social Security’s Office of Hearings and Appeals, where her motto was work hard and be scary. She has many friends from her days at OHA both in Little Rock and in New Orleans. She remembers them fondly. Jessie is survived by her son Joe and her husband David, her favorite nephew Alan and two brothers, John and James. At Jessie’s request, there will be no service. Remember her with your donations to CARE, ASPCA or an animal charity of your choice.

Jessie left her mark on this world in the most fanstastic manner. I never met her in person, but through the stories and tributes passed on by her friends and loved ones, she certainly left a lasting impression on me. I will miss her.
Peace,
CP
