Biography: Beverly Dan Duerson Alford, of Little Rock, affectionately known as “Dannie”, was born September 22, 1926, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Erline Johnson Duerson and Goodloe Kearney Duerson. After a lengthy illness, she died peacefully on June 4, 2006. Dannie grew up in Shreveport. She married Phil English in 1947, and they had three children. They moved to Little Rock in 1957. In Little Rock, she was a devoted Mom and supported her children in their activities by being active as a Room-Mother, Girl Scout Leader, Den Mother, and PTA member. Dannie and Phil divorced in 1971. She moved to Sioux Falls and was the assistant director of an early childhood research project under Dr. Ralph Colvin. At the end of the research project, she moved home to Shreveport where she met and married John Alford in 1979. John and Dannie were happily married for 26 years. She certified in-home child-care givers across the United States. After John’s retirement, Dannie and John moved to Little Rock, Arkansas in early 1990.
