Biography: David R. “Randy” Moore of Little Rock, age 60, ended his valiant struggle of more than ten years with spinal and brain cancer on August 11, 2009. Although the battle was sometimes formidable, Randy and Karen were blessed to have the love and support of so many during this long fight – family, friends, healthcare professionals, etc. For this, we are truly grateful. Randy was born on October 18, 1948 in El Dorado, Arkansas. He graduated from El Dorado High School in 1966. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1968-1971. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1976 and has remained a loyal Sooners fan throughout the years. Randy worked for AT&T, Systematics, later Alltel Information Services, and Pegasus before his health forced him to retire in 2006. He attended St. James United Methodist Church and loved the Saturday Night Service. Randy maintained an incredible attitude throughout his illness and his faith and sense of humor helped him and those around him have smiles to the very end. He was a fabulous cook and loved to travel and make people smile. He loved music – from rock and roll to classical to bluegrass gospel – he had an appreciation for it all. Randy was preceded in death by his parents, Senator W.D. (Bill) and Juanita Moore. He is survived by his wife and soul-mate, Karen Huber, brothers Bill (Marge) Moore of Houston, TX, Dennis Moore of Waco, TX, and sister Janis Lentz of McAllen, TX. He is also survived by nieces: Leah (Glenn) Slaven of Baytown, TX, Diana (Dea) Everett of Vancouver, WA, Karrie Huber of Fayetteville, AR and nephews: Drew Lentz of McAllen, TX, Peter (Christina) Lentz of San Antonio, TX and Kasper Huber of Fayetteville, AR. In addition he is survived by mother-in-law, Katharine Huber and brother-in-law Barry (Glinda) Huber, all of Jonesboro, AR, great nieces Katie Slaven and Emma Lentz and great nephews Brandon and Andrew Lentz, as well as several cousins. He also leaves many special friends and his dogs Sophie and Lucy, who will miss him so very much. A celebration of Randy’s life will be held at St. James UMC on Thursday, August 13 at 3 p.m., officiated by Rev. Greg Schick. In honor of Randy’s favorite church service, please come dressed casually, preferably in bright colors. Afterwards the family will joyfully receive people at the home (4006 Valley View Drive). Please feel free to join us for both or either to celebrate Randy’s wonderful life! There are so many to thank it is impossible to list everyone, but special appreciation goes to Dr. Howard Colman and staff at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, the caring people at UAMS in Little Rock (Dr. Laura Hutchins Ron, Donna, Kathy, Anita, the nurses on 7H and in the Infusion Center). Also, thanks go to CARTI, Hospice Home Care, MEMS and his always supportive church family at St. James. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. James UMC, MD Anderson, UAMS, CARTI or to CaringBridge, which has been such a help these last few months (www.caringbridge.org/visit/randymoore).

Randy faced his medical issues with great dignity and propriety. He could not have done so without the courage and support of Karen and so many others. Grace and Peace to Karen and all of Randy's family and friends.

Karen,

There are no words to express in this time of your grief. Randy was a man bigger than life I always remembered him with a smile on his face. His smile and personality would turn the worst meeting into a pleasant one. I pray that God will shine down his love and Grace upon you and your family during this time of sorry. He will be truly missed in all aspects of life. He is in a place where he is no longer sick, it is this joy that I look forward to as a Christian where there is no more sorry or sickness. I know you will be surrened by the many friends that love both you and Randy. May God BLess.

The laughter, the irrepressible spirit, the generous heart, the way his smile made us feel,
the encouragement he gave even as his own dreams were dying will never be forgotten by friends.

Death is not extinguishing thelight, it is putting out the lamps because the light of heaven is so bright.

When we walk to the edge of the light and take a step into the darkness of the unknown, we must believe one of two things will happen ~there will be something solid for us to stand upon, or we will be taught to fly.

May Randy's spirit soar.

Karen,
I smile thinking of you and Randy twenty-five years ago! Randy, always ready with a joke and a smile, witty, lover of Fords and the Sooners, outspoken, playing with Katy, loving to "stir things up," and ready to see the world. His battle was fought with grace and dignity. I know your heart aches with missing him, but he is pain free at last. Much love to you.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this very difficult time. It was a pleasure to take care of Mr. Moore. He always had a smile on his face and brought that same joy to everyone he encountered. I always loved giving him a hard time about the Texas Longhorns! Please let us know if there is anything we can do for you.

Karen, family and friends,
My heartfelt condolences. I had the privilege of knowing and helping with Randy's fight during the latter parts of his illness. Although we had diverse viewpoints on some issues (mostly political!) I think he and I would both agree that life is precious and it is what you make it. Randy was the type person that brought his own convictions to the table. He was courageous and valiant in his approach to his mortality. In this, he is a role model. We will miss his wit and charm. Thank you for the opportunity to help you at such an important juncture in the journey through life as we know it.
