Biography: Bruce Winn, of Little Rock, at the age of 84 died at Good Shepherd Nursing Home August 1, 2009. He was the son of the late James A Winn, head of the V.A. Hospital in North Little Rock, Arkansas, and Marie Hamilton Winn who was a nurse and dietitian for the V.A. Hospital. Bruce Winn was educated at Texas A&M College and graduated after World War II. He had degrees in aeronautical engineering and mechanical engineering. He served in the Air Force at Edwards Air Force Base where he helped develop the first jet squadron and other air planes used in World War II. He was offered several jobs as Engineer for air craft manufacturing plants, but wanted to stay in Arkansas where he was raised. He took a job with Reynolds Metals Co. in Bauxite, Arkansas as project engineer for thirty years and retired. He went into business with Tommy Walker to form Walk-Winn Plastics and developed moulds for boating accessories. When all the engineering was done he sold out to Tommy Walker and formed Creative Engineering Consultants where he installed and engineered grind mill installations for Humbolt Wiedag. Bruce and Mike Winn, his son, then designed and manufactured their own mill design, which developed into the most energy efficient grinding mill made today. The plants location is here in Little Rock, Arkansas at the historical building that manufactured the Climber Automobile and the Command Air Biplane, where Bruce got his first air plane ride which planted the seed to go into aeronautical engineering. He raised his five sons through the Westover Hills Presbyterian Church and Boy Scout Club of America, which he was active in as Scout Master. He received an award in Scout Leader Training for his work in Scouting. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Phyllis Winn and sons Mike Winn, wife Jackie, and Steve Winn. He also is survived by two step sons; Jeremy and wife Kendal Canada, and Erik Canada, who works at his plant, and a grandson Keaton Canada, as well as several nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by Larry, David, and Bruce Edward Winn, his sons. He was a member of A.S.M.E.Club, Heights Optimist Club, Who’s Who in America and contributor to Humane Society for Animals, Westover Hills Presbyterian Village, and St. Jude Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. All donations should be made in his name to Westover Hills Presbyterian Church in Little Rock, Arkansas. Visitation will be Tuesday August 4, 2009 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Ruebel Funeral Home.
