Biography: Dr. Fred B. Berry, 82, of Roland, AR, went to see his Lord and Savior (“His Boss”) Monday, July 20, 2009. He was born April 21, 1927 in Honolulu, Hawaii. He obtained his Doctorate of Medicine from Tulane Medical School in 1949. He served his country in Korea as a Captain of the Medical Corps. He obtained Board Certification in both General Surgery and Thoracic Surgery and opened the door for Open-Heart Surgery at Baptist Hospital in Little Rock where he later served as Chief of Surgery. After retiring from surgery, Dr. Berry continued serving his patients at White River Rural Health. His expertise and care benefited the health and happiness of many persons. Dr. Berry was preceded in death by his parents, Col. Morgan C. Berry, M.D. and Mrs. Daisilee Hutchins Berry, and sisters, Ms. Flora G. Dodge and Dr. Lee Berry. He is survived by his loving wife, Elane; son: Andy Berry of Arkadelphia; daughters: Cindy Hiegel and husband David of Denton, TX; Karen Benson and husband Richie of Springfield, AR; Dr. Jennifer Berry of Nashville, TN, and Dr. April Turner and husband Dave of Little Rock; grandchildren: Eric Benson, Jessica Berry, Austin Benson, Morgan Berry, and Hailey Turner; and dogs: Deci, Tipsy, and Hurcules. Dr. Berry will be remembered as a wonderful physician, friend, husband, father, and grandfather. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, July 23rd at Ruebel Funeral Home, 6313 West Markham, Little Rock with the scattering of his ashes on his farm in Roland immediately following his memorial service. Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 22nd at Ruebel Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Hospice Home Care, 2200 South Bowman Rd. I worked with this precious, intelligent, funny, great surgeon when I finished nursing school. He taught me so much, he was a precious man with a heart of gold. I loved and have never stopped loving you and Dr. Berry. I will always have only wonderful memories of your sweet Fred. Tammie.
