Biography: James Wiley Mosley, 77, of Little Rock, Arkansas, died on July 2, 2009. He was born in Conway, Arkansas on July 28, 1931 to the late Mary Newton and Ellis Greenlee Mosley. Jim was pre-deceased by his parents and his brother, Edward Newton Mosley, of Batesville, Arkansas. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joanne Nolen Mosley; three children, James Dixon (Jim) Mosley and his wife Pamela, Mary Jo Watkins, and Marge Anna Luttrell and her husband Rex; and six grandchildren, Eli Mosley, Chris Mosley, Joanne Watkins, Paul Watkins, Audrey Ray, and Amelia Ray; and nephew John Mosley, in-laws, Mary Eleanor Mosley, Bob and Deborah Nolen. He was baptized at First Presbyterian Church in Conway and joined the church when he was eight. After graduating from Conway High School and Hendrix College, he earned three degrees from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary: a Bachelor of Divinity, Master of Divinity, and Doctorate of Ministry. He was ordained in 1955 at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Galveston, Texas. He worked as Director of Admissions for Austin Seminary. Jim then served as pastor to Fain Memorial Presbyterian Church in Wichita Falls, Texas, Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church in Austin, Texas, and Westminster Presbyterian Church in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He served as interim pastor in Presbyterian churches in Mena, Russellville, Malvern, Clarksville, Mountainburg, Warren, Little Rock, and Conway, Arkansas. He was the interim executive presbyter and stated clerk for the Presbytery of Arkansas. He served a term as the Moderator of the Presbytery of Arkansas and a term as the Moderator of a Presbytery in Texas. In his spare time, Jim was also proud of his service to the Ferncliff Camp and Conference Center and the boards for Ferncliff, Lyon College, Schreiner College, and Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary. The new open-air, multi-purpose building for camp worship at Ferncliff Camp has been named the James W. Mosley Tabernacle in his honor. In spite of his busy schedule as pastor and his service to the institutions he believed in, Jim always had time for his family. He was a devoted father and husband, always giving Joanne credit for the role she played in his ministry and speaking of their children with pride. Members of his congregations remember his non-judgmental attitude and his comforting presence in time of crisis. He will always be remembered for his beautiful, spontaneous prayers, as well as his great sense of humor. Even during the years after the accident that impaired him, Jim and Joanne were a source of inspiration to friends and visitors. While his presence here will be missed, his entering into the Church Triumphant is cause for rejoicing. Throughout his life, in word and deed, Jim taught us that God’s love is unconditional. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 7, at 1:00 PM at Second Presbyterian Church in Little Rock. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a memorial be given to Ferncliff Camp and Conference Center, 1720 Ferncliff Road, Little Rock AR 72223 (in honor of Jim Mosley); Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, 100 East 27th Street, Austin, TX 78705 (Jim Mosley scholarship) or Lyon College. P.O. Box 2317, Batesville, AR 72503 (Jim Mosley scholarship).

Jim Mosley's time in Conway was very much appreciated and cut way too short. There was no task that he was not "up to." His passing will be a tremendous loss to all who experienced working with him or just being around him at the church.

Dear JoAnne and Family,
I wish to offer my condolences to you and your family on the passing of your husband and father. I joined Westminster Presbyterian Church in May, 1991 largely due to the influence of Rev. Jim Mosley. He was so wise, kind, and understanding. He encouraged me during a difficult time in my life. I will always have fond memories of Pastor Mosley and look forward to reuniting with him in Heaven.

We always remember Jim fondly because he was the reason we loved Westminster (Hot Springs) so much and joined the church so quickly when we moved here from Calif. We are sorry for your loss.

Joanne,

I was saddened to hear of Jim's death. Though I only met him on one occasion, I have heard many Jim Mosley stories since my arrival in Conway. He was indeed well loved and greatly appreciated. I will not be able to be present to celebrate his life on Tuesday but you and your family will be much in my prayers and in the prayers of many Presbyterians from Conway.

God's Peace,

Drew Travis

We heard very insightful messages from Jim.
First Presbyterian Church of Conway was priviledged to have him for several Sundays and everyone thought highly of you and Jim.

Joanne (and other family members):

We were so blessed as Jim served the Conway church as our associate pastor. It was a "return home" for him, and a great help to us at a time we needed his steady and loving care. The accident was a huge shock to us all -- to you and Jim especially, but to us as well, because he was so easy to love!
I cannot ever forget the hours spent with Jim in his slow recovery at the hospital and the rehab, and with you as you yourself were also recovering.

May the Lord continue to be with you in all the days of your life, as He has been so far.

I have very fond memories of Jim from the time he served as associate pastor at First Pres in Conway a few years ago. I remember one time he walked into a Sunday school class as the teacher. He proceded to asked to be reminded of the subject and the amount of time he had to teach. I thought it was going to be an awful class because of Jim's lack of preparation. Jim then proceeded to speak extremely knowledgably on the subject for the whole class period. It was one of the better Sunday School classes that I have attended. It gave me some glimmer of what a special man Jim was.

Dear Joanne and Family:

Every child needs to experience the influence of a great minster during their childhood. Quincy and Gretchen were blessed that Jim and Joanne both provided just such a positive influence on them. We praise God that we knew Jim. We are so glad that Jim is now in the daily presence of God. We pray that God will provide courage for healing as the family faces the days ahead.

We love you, Bill and Annette Hays

I am saddened to hear of Dr. Mosley's passing. I have fond memories of him from his time at Westminster in Hot Springs. He really enjoyed going to watch my mother's (Juanita Winn) horses run. He also helped me at a difficult time in my life, and I shall miss him greatly.

I am so blessed to have called Jim my pastor all through my childhood. He baptized me, prayed at my wedding and supported my call to ministry. In his honor this week, I plan to pray at length, laugh loudly, and sing out loud whenever the mood strikes.

My thoughts and prayers are with all the Mosleys.
