Biography: Bill Terry, a former editor of the Arkansas Times Magazine and former wire editor and columnist for the Arkansas Democrat, died June 23, 2009, of complications from lymphoma in St. Louis, MO. He was 77. Terry, of Berryville, AR and Golden, MO, was born in Little Rock July 3, 1931. He was the son of Fred W. Terry, owner of the Terry Dairy Co., who died in 1973, and Cornelia Witsell Terry Thomas, who died in 2000. Terry wrote three novels: The Watermelon Kid (LSU Press, 1984); The Husband (2003) and Scions (2008), both self-published. He is survived by his son, Matthew Terry (Allison) of Tampa, FL, and his daughter, Catherine Terry Marshall (Christopher) of St. Louis, MO, and five grandchildren: Mark, Caitlin and Grace Terry of Tampa, and Reid and John Marshall of St. Louis; his sister, Ann Terry Pincus, and brother-in-law, Walter Pincus, of Washington, DC, and several nieces and nephews. Services will be private.
He tried hard to teach me to write, but alas, the most important thing he taught me, was about
humanity.
Our relationship was a brief couple of years, short compared to most of his friends, but intense.
I loved Bill, and the literary world and the "Average Joe's" have suffered a huge loss.
