Biography: Alvin (Al) Malloy was a native Arkansan born in Fountain Hill, Arkansas on April 21, 1916 to Roy C. and Violet (Flowers) Malloy. He attended schools in Ashley County and graduated from Crossett High School. He completed his pre-law training at University of Arkansas-Monticello. He received his Doctorate of Jurisprudence from the University of Arkansas - Fayetteville in 1943. He served in the Fifty-Third General Assembly, House, State of Arkansas as a Reading Clerk. Mr. Malloy served in the Army Infantry during World War II. He was employed as a Claims Examiner by the Veterans Administration in 1944. Mr. Malloy was the first World War II veteran to be promoted to Legal Rating Specialist in the Little Rock Regional Office. Mr. Malloy served in the Philippines V A Regional Office as a Rating Specialist and Assistant Adjudication Officer from 1960-1965. He returned to the Little Rock Regional office in 1965 and served as a Section Chief in Compensation, Pension and Education until July 1, 1973, at which time he was promoted to Adjudication Officer. During Mr. Malloy's 40 years with the VA, he had received a number of performance awards with evaluations of outstanding or its equivalent. Mr. Malloy was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, North Little Rock, prior to his move to Elmcroft Assisted Living Center in Sherwood in 2003. He taught an adult Sunday School class for many years and was a certified Lay Speaker. He served as the Lay Speaker in many Methodist churches throughout the State of Arkansas. He was a member of the Arkansas State Bar and had been admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court. He was a member of the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans. He was well known by the members of all the Veterans' service organizations, Arkansas Department of Veterans Affairs, and County Service officers. He was known as a knowledgeable individual, excellent speaker, and well-liked and respected by all. Mr. Malloy was an avid Razorback fan and spent many hours watching all sports on TV during his retirement years. He served on the Board of the NLR Senior Citizens Organization following his retirement from the VA. Mr. Malloy was married for 62 years to the former Mary K. Wilson of Fayetteville, Arkansas prior to her death in 2005. He leaves behind a son and daughter in law, Michael A. and Sharron (Deane) Malloy of Belleville, Illinois, and three beloved grandchildren, Captain Kristopher M. Malloy and wife Michelle, stationed at Langley AFB, Virginia, Korey M. Malloy and friend Alicia Hamilton of North Little Rock, Arkansas, and Kimberly M. Malloy of Belleville, Illinois. Of his ten brothers and sisters, the two surviving siblings include Preston Malloy of Hamburg, Arkansas and Joyce Johnson of Dover, Arkansas. A visitation will be held at North Little Rock’s First United Methodist Church, 6701 JFK Blvd, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 4, 2009. Funeral Services will follow at 10:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary with Rev. Will Choate officiating. Interment will be at Rest Hills Memorial Park following the service.
