Biography: Claudius Deaton Jr. , age 80, of Little Rock, died April 24, 2009. He was born in Sheffield, Alabama, on February 26, 1929 to the late Claudius and Ola Belcher Deaton . He was a member of the Camden High School Graduating Class of 1947. He attended Southern Arkansas University before returning to Camden for a career with the International Paper Company. Claude was a long time Playground Monitor at Holy Souls Catholic School where he was affectionately known as “Pop”. He was an active member of Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church in Little Rock, where he served in many different capacities. Claude is survived by his wife, Betty Adams Deaton; two sons, Stephen Deaton and Gary Deaton (Mona) ; two step sons, Steven Shrider ( Tricia ) , and Gary Shrider; five grandchildren, Gary Deaton Jr., Laura Horton ( Shawn ), Ilse Ann Johnson, Seth Shrider (Jacqueline), and Gentry Shrider; brother, Tommy Deaton ( Merle Jean ), sister, Martha Crosby, sister in law, Betty Marie Deaton, and 6 great grandchildren. Claude was preceded in death by his brother Raymond Deaton. A memorial service will be held at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church on Monday at 2:00 PM officiated by Rev. Vic Nixon. Burial will be held on Tuesday at 2:00PM in Camden, AR at Memorial Park Cemetery.
