Biography: Mary Ann Burr Cottrell, age 87, passed away on April 3, 2009. She was born in Little Rock on July 28, 1921 to Alfred H. and Hazel Wilson Burr. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, William A. Burr, and her husband, J.H. Cottrell, Jr. She is survived by her two sons Will Cottrell (and wife Ann Cottrell) of Little Rock, and John Cottrell (and wife Lynn Cottrell, and her children, Preston and Shelby Waters) of Plano, Texas. She graduated from Little Rock Senior High School, attended Harcum Junior College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania and the University of Arizona where she joined Pi Beta Phi. Mrs. Cottrell started her Red Cross Nurses Aid training in 1942 and did duty in Pulaski County hospitals before entering the Army Nurses Aide Corps, serving two years in the hospital at Camp Fannin, Texas. In 1952 she became the chairman of the American Red Cross Volunteer Nurses Aide for Pulaski County, in addition to being an active member of the Junior League of Little Rock. She also served as a co-chairman of the Mount Holly Cemetery Association. She worked for many years as a travel agent with World Wide Travel of Little Rock and has many friends from her experiences there. She will be remembered as a good friend, always gracious and fun loving, helping where she felt she could and full of love. She will be missed by her family and friends. The family wishes to extend their grateful appreciation to her caregivers and household helper, Carrie Smith, Marie Churn, Jacque Webb and Mary Louise Coates. These wonderful people brought great joy and comfort to her life with their love. Memorials may be made to Mount Holly Cemetery Association, 5400 Country Club Blvd, Little Rock, AR 72207. There will be a visitation at Ruebel Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, April 6. Funeral services will be at Second Presbyterian Church at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7, officiated by Reverend Dr. Karen Akin, followed by interment at Mount Holly Cemetery for the family and few friends that wish to attend.
