Biography: Alida Steyn, age 83, of Ferndale died Friday, January 16th. Mrs. Steyn was born in the Cape Province, South Africa. Her parents were the late Pieter and Madeleine Lotter. She trained as an elementary school teacher and taught school until her retirement in 1982. In 2002 she emigrated from South Africa and lived with her daughter Connie and son-in-law Richard in Los Angeles. In 2006, she moved with the family to Little Rock. She is remembered by all who knew her as a strong believer in God, a person devoted to her family, an accomplished artist and a dedicated gardener - a pursuit she continued until the day of her death. Mrs. Steyn was preceded in death by her husband, the late Cornelius Steyn. She is survived by her son Rev. (Ds) Chris Steyn of the NGK and his wife Marna in Christiana, South Africa, and her daugher Connie and her husband Dr. Richard Griffiths in Little Rock. She also leaves behind grandchildren Michelle, Richard and his wife Jonna, Renier, Jollette, and Jacone. Despite her relatively short time in the US, she gathered others around her who will especially miss her, including Laura Stephens, Brian Caulfeld, and Monica Crissler. I'm terribly sorry for your loss. Although I never had the honor to meet Mrs. Steyn, I felt I knew her a little from the lovely stories Dr. Griffiths would share with us when I worked with him at the clinic.
