His background contained diverse training that included classical pipe organ to jazz piano studies with instrumentalists and vocalists from the most eclectic to the most specialized. He has worked in American, Latin and French experimental jazz styles as well as cabaret, musical theatre, theatre organ, harpsichord, choir/soloist accompanying, orchestral, choral and film/television scoring. Chad’s foremost area of expertise was the fast paced world of improve comedy music direction and performance. Chad has performed with the Improv Asylum, the Alarm Clock Theatre and Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts. He performed in San Francisco with the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus as the principal keyboardist with the orchestra, written original scores for the Zoo District theatre troupe in Los Angeles and the theatre department of Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. “Buddy” was the cast composer for the Red Octopus Theatre, the music director for Community Theatre of Little Rock, music director for Off Center and Easy Street, music/voice teacher at the Arkansas Arts Center’s Summer Theatre Academy for children. He was nominated for a Garvin award in Los Angeles, CA for his score of “The Defenders” and won best original score for “Scraps” at Little Rock’s 2008 48 hour film festival. His accomplishments as a musician are phenomenal and are only surpassed by his great humanity as a friend, uncle, brother and son. “Buddy’s” family and friends are attempting to ponder the depth of this world’s loss and the increase of love and joy in the next. Tribute and Celebration services will be held on Monday, December 29th at Ruebel Funeral Home for a visitation, 4 to 7pm. Profoundest condolences to the Habigs. I enjoyed many, many evenings at Easy Street, listening to Buddy play, sing, banter with bandmates and customers -- and I stuffed more than a few bills into the tip jar in appreciation of his talents. Central Arkansas is the poorer for his passing.

Peggy, Carla, & Teresa, there are no words I can say to ease your pain, but my heart & tears go out to you. Praying God will keep you in his arms. Chad was one of God's Angels blessed with so many musical God-Given talents that he used & shared with so many others. He always had a smile & a hug for me whenever I saw him, even way back in the years at Christ Lutheran. Our thoughts & Prayers are with you. Love, Sherry & family.

We are so sad to learn of Buddy's passing and offer deepest sympathy to all the family.
We shall miss our dear friend. I have some great
photos of Buddy at our home celebrating my daughters 15th birthday. The two of them were jumping on the trampoline! Great shots. We had a blast! Wherever Buddy was there was joy! He exuded joy and laughter! We have been blessed and privileged to call him our friend. Blessings to all from all your friends at Maverick Supply Inc.

Of course, I have many fond memories of Buddy, but the one that stands out is the time almost 15 years ago that he visited Troy and me when we lived in St. Louis and had just bought a fancy new keyboard with all the bells and whistles -- tons of instruments, memory settings, etc. He sat down and fiddled with it for a few minutes creating some presets for various combinations, and then nonchalantly proceeded to produce the most spine-tingling, goose-bumps and all rendition of the Phantom of the Opera imaginable. We had just attended the play at the Fox Theater and to say his performance rivaled their orchestra's is no exaggeration. As impressive as his musical performances were, though, they pale in comparison to those of his soul's. I'm thankful for the privilege of having known Buddy. Peace and love, David.

He obviously had so many of your wonderful characteristics and i am sure you taught him a-lot. I know you will miss him terribly but the prayers of the multitudes will bring peace to you and your Mom, and the rest of the family and friends. Peace and Love.

My heart breaks for your loss and you will be in my prayers as you learn what to do now. I only knew Buddy through his work at the Arts Center and he always had a smile. I cannot imagine losing a son or sibling but I know in my heart that God has a plan for us all and that he calls us home when we are needed. My mom and dad are singing in that heavenly choir as I hope to be someday. Chad is most certainly there singing and playing and looking into the face of God. He is home and happy as he is laid to rest. Be assured that God has a plan for us all to do something with Buddy's life we just don't know what it is at this time but it will come. Let's all praise God for his life and the influence he had on so many. God Bless You All.

I have only known Buddy for four months when he began playing for our church. He was a perfect fit from the moment I met him. He just brought so much life and smiles. I knew GOD had blessed us with such a GREAT man. My heart goes out to family and hundreds of friends that have known him for years. He touched my life and I miss him so much I just can't imagine if I had known him more than four months. GOD truly blessed us at our church. We had prayed for someone special to come along and BOY HE WAS SPECIAL!!
To Buddy's family I want each of you to know that my every prayers are with you. May GOD give you comfort for today and strength for tomorrow. GOD has a wonderful angel at his side.

Buddy, we are so sorry! You were such a blessing to us last year when our son and your true friend, Russell, died. We know in our hearts that he was there ready to meet you.Our guess is that you and he are in deep discussion about the state of our world, and how your leaving has made it a much sadder place. The ones of us that remain are lessened by the loss of your wonderful personality and limitless talents as it was by Russell's truly unique being. You guys take care of each other. Tom and Dot Moore

I've known Buddy since we were young, since he was good friends with my brother, Russell. I was fortunate to catch up with him a little bit at Russell's memorial service last year, where he gave me a mixed CD of music that reminded him of Russell. I'm listening to that CD right now in Buddy's memory, and I will treasure it in the future. My one consolation to your family is that I'm sure Russell was right there to greet Buddy and to show him the ropes. Buddy's taste in music was impeccable, and I regret that I never had the opportunity to see him play in public throughout his adult years. Your family will be in my thoughts and prayers through the upcoming months.

I've been walking past Buddy's office all day and seeing his shirt/jacket on the back of his chair. I keep expecting him to be there, singing.

Our last day of work together, Tuesday, we were standing outside in the rain during the fire drill and noticing that everyone had an umbrella except us. I told him that meant we were exceptional!

The last time I saw him, he was holding the door open for everyone and singing Christmas carols. Everyone that went through the door said, "Thanks Buddy!" and there was always something special in each person's voice when they spoke to him, because he treated everyone like they were special. I'll remember him just like that - putting others ahead of himself, laughing and singing.

Thanks Buddy.

My heart ached when I heard of the passing of Buddy. He was always friendly and wore a big smile whenever I saw him. His range of music styles and precision of his music always relaxed my mind when I would hear him play. Now God has called one of his loved ones home to play for his heavenly choir. We will truly miss you, Buddy. The music world of Little Rock will not be the same without you.

Peggy Jo, I want you to know that my family's thoughts and prayers are with you during this time. If I was there with you right now I would just put my arms around you and give you a hug and tell you I love you. It is hard to believe that it has been over 15 years since we use to gather 'round the piano with Chad and sing, what fun we had! May you always be able to hold onto all the good times and may God hold you up during this terrible, difficult time.

From both my mom, Mary, and I, condolences to the family and friends of such a great man that I was happy to know for almost half my life. He was very loved by almost every single person he ever met and will be very missed by this world. Not only his monumental talent or his love of music but his compassion and kindness for so many people in this world. I hope that his life will be a testament to the rest of us to live life to the fullest every day and be thankful for all of those people around us, to work harder to work out our problems and just love each other. Even though he and I had not been very close in the last few years, he was always in my heart and always will be!

With love and sadness,

Buddy, not only have you inspired me as THE BEST PIANO PLAYER IN TOWN and by your ability to hold an entire room up with your musical presence, but you, along with a couple of others, provided me the support and inspiration to go ahead and make music the main focus of my life once again.
I cannot thank you enough for that gift; in a small way, you gave me me life back.
I will always play "Wicked Little Town" for you.

I am sitting at work reading all the comments about our Buddy and what he meant to so many people...I still have not been able to wrap my mind around this loss for all of us. My thoughts have been for Buddy's beloved family whom he talked about all the time and how much they meant to him...Buddy and I have been friends for so many years that it will be difficult to imagine him not here, not being able to visit him here at work or hang out in the evening listening to music or talk on the phone. My life was made richer by Buddy being in it and I will be forever grateful for his presence......

Buddy is one of the most amazing people I've ever known. I was lucky enough to share playing music with him on a couple of occasions, and his instant completely appropriate accompaniment on some of my compositions left me awed, as no other player I've ever worked with has done before, or since. Several other times, we just hung together, communicating with the spirits and digging one another's totally different but mutually intriguing senses of humor. His face in my mind always has his childlike Buddha smile.

Buddy, I'm going to miss you in this plane of existence, and so are the many others whose lives you have touched for the better. This world was a finer place for your having been here, and the equation is simple: More Buddys = More Wonderful World.

I have known Buddy for approximately 16 years. I have worked with him and spent time getting to know this wonderful man. My son met Buddy for the first time just a few weeks ago during Thanksgiving weekend. Buddy instantly tagged him with a nickname of "Sprout". We knew Buddy for only a few short months, since he became organist for Little Rock Community Church the first Sunday of September. With his great talent and outgoing personality, he quickly became an important part of our "Church Family". The music he shared with us on Sunday and especially the Christmas Carol Sing-a-long that he planned and ochestrated December 14 truly blessed all who heard. We will always remember the remarkable person and the incredible talent that was "Buddy" for this all too brief time in our lives. Our heartfelt prayers and sympathy for his family.

Peggy, you raised an exceptional young man. Buddy always had respect for others, he never had a cross word for anyone. Buddy was always polite and was always willing to help anyone that needed help. I have considered it an honor to have known him and to have worked with him. He often spoke of you and his family with such love and compassion. If we had not met you, we couldn't wait till we did. We can not explain just why God has taken Buddy at such an early age, except maybe God needed the best to play the music in Heaven. Buddy has made an impact on everyone that has met him and he will be greatly missed.

I had the great pleasure of calling Buddy one of my greatest friends, and watching him grow up from a teenager to the wonderful, compassionate, talented friend that he will always be.
