Biography: Lucille Blann West Swann, of Little Rock, passed away December 9, 2008. Born July 16, 1915, and raised in Scott, Arkansas, she was the eldest of five children of Edward Ramsey and Rose Dickey Blann. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sisters and brother—Loretta Duckworth, Merle Bredlow, Lois Hardin and Edward Blann--and husbands Herman Clay West and Clyde H. Swann. Lucille was raised in All Soul's Church in Scott where she remained active all 93 years of her life, including serving as organist from age 14 to 87. Other of her Scott activities included the Needle and Thimble Club and being secretary for Scott Connections, a group dedicated to preserving the farming community's history. Lucille attended Scott schools until she moved to Little Rock to finish her senior year at Little Rock High School, graduating in 1932. She went to Little Rock Junior College, then worked as a secretary for the local Boy Scouts office and for the U.S. Corps of Engineers. Herman West worked there; they married in 1939 and had two children following his service in the Navy during WWII.. Herm died in 1969, and in 1971 Lucille married Clyde Swann. When he retired they were able to attend elderhostels and took foreign tours. Clyde died in 2001, but Lucille kept traveling -- in China last year and in Italy and France this spring. Lucille sought ways to be of service through church and community life. In earlier years she was a Girl Scout troop leader, Bible Study group leader, and church organist. In recent years she has been secretary for the Pulaski County Historical Society, played piano for residents of Presbyterian Village, scheduled programs for Bookfellows, and much more. She will be remembered for her energy, faith, joy and love and ever-present smile. Lucille is survived by daughter Martha West and her daughter and son-in-law Jennifer and Jeremy Cozad; and by son George West, his wife Starr Mitchell, and their sons Logan and William Cane West. A graveside service is scheduled at Roselawn at 9:30 on Thursday, followed by a memorial Service at All Soul's Church in Scott at 10:45 o'clock. Family visitation is at the home on Wednesday evening.
