Biography: Winnogene Ruthven, age 90, passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2008. Mrs. Ruthven was born in Detroit, Michigan. After graduating from college she taught school and married Hugh E. Ruthven who was serving in World War II in the U.S. Army Medical Corp. After the war they moved back to Detroit and then in 1964 they were transferred to Chicago, Illinois. Mr. & Mrs. Ruthven came to Little Rock in 1977. She loved her church, playing bridge, volunteering at St. Vincent’s Infirmary, cooking, painting, and traveling the world with family and friends. Her family was her life and she spent as much time as possible with them. She is survived by her two sons, Hugh E. Ruthven,II of Chicago, Illinois; JR Ruthven of Little Rock; two daughters, Elisse Ruthven and her husband Grover Niemeier of Chicago, Illinois; Denise R. Thrower and her husband Scott of Little Rock; her six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. The family would like to thank Dr. John P. Brizzolara, his staff and the other doctors and nurses who cared for Mrs. Ruthven. A funeral mass will be held at the Cathedral of St. Andrew at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 15, with Msgr. Scott Marczuk as the celebrant. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute Foundation.
