Biography: Edna Elizabeth (Betty) Becker Walt, age 71, of Little Rock, passed away early Saturday morning October 25, 2008, at her home. Betty was predeceased by her parents, Aubrey & Russell Becker of Camden, AR, and her daughter, Elizabeth Becker Walt. Betty was born on September 17, 1937 in Little Rock. She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Dr. James Riggs Walt III (Little Rock, AR); her three sons James Riggs Walt IV (St. Louis, MO), Richard Paul Walt (Camden, AR), David Mathews Walt (Little Rock, AR), & David’s fiancé Lindsey Birmingham, her sister Carolyn Winburn and the late Hardy Winburn IV (Little Rock, AR), her sister-in-law Jean Walt Stallings and the late Alan Stallings Sr. (Little Rock, AR), her brother-in-law Jesse Walt and Katy Walt (Altheimer, AR), special and close family friend Isa Bella Parker (Little Rock, AR), and her only first cousin John Cobb (North Ft. Myers, FL). Betty grew up in Camden, AR, and graduated from the High School Dept., Gulf Park College, Gulfport, MS; attended Randolph-Macon Women’s College in Lynchburg, VA; graduated from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, AR B.A. 1959, M.A. 1961; instructor of history at Little Rock University (UALR) 1961-1964. Betty was a beloved wife, mother, and fiercely loyal friend. She loved being with her family; especially Walt Day at Greers Ferry lake and summers at Rock Cliff in Evergreen, CO. Ever a teacher, Betty’s love for history continued with her participation in Arkansas Pioneers (fifth-generation) and her own family genealogy. Betty was an enthusiastic and loyal member of many groups including: the Scattered Seeds Garden Club; the Aesthetic Club; Chapter AZ, P.E.O. Sisterhood; member of First United Methodist Church Little Rock, AR; and Delta Delta Delta sorority. A visitation will be held at #8 River Oaks Circle on Tuesday evening October 28, 2008 from 5:00-8:00pm. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday at 10:30am at First United Methodist Church, Little Rock, AR presided by the Rev. Dr. Michael Mattox.
