Biography: Anne Hansen, 68, of Little Rock died Friday, September 5. She was born July 16, 1940, to the late Carrie and Clay Hansen. In addition to her parents, she was pre-deceased by her niece, Allison Anne Wimberly, and brother-in-law Ed Wimberly. She is survived by her son, Douglas Hansen Griffiths, her grandson, Chasen Smith Griffiths, her sister, Reverend Lynn Wimberly Lindsey and husband, Wayne, and her neighbor and special friend, Donna Davis, all of Little Rock. She is also survived by five nieces and nephews: Beth Wimberly Hohfeler and husband Jay; Clay Wimberly; Mary Kate Wimberly; Todd Lindsey and wife, Gwen; and Elaine Lindsey Porter and husband, Robert; and the following great nieces and nephews: Molly, Maggie, and Kate Hohfeler; Tyler and Hannah Lindsey; Joseph and Matthew Porter. A 1958 graduate of Little Rock Central High School, she attended Hendrix College, earned her bachelor of arts degree from the University of Arkansas and a master of arts in teaching and a doctorate in education from the University of Memphis. Dr. Hansen's distinguished career in public education began in Memphis and continued in Little Rock until her retirement in 2002. She taught English at Hall and Parkview High Schools and was an assistant principal at Henderson Middle School and Parkview High School. In 1991, she was selected by the Arkansas Association of Secondary School Principals as the state's Assistant Secondary Principal-of-the-Year and represented Arkansas at the national "Leadership Forum for the 21st Century" in Oak Brook, Illinois, in 1992. Her numerous affiliations included Delta Kappa Gamma, the National Education Association, the Little Rock Classroom Teachers Association and the Little Rock Retired Teachers Association. An active lifelong member of Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church, she was a past president of the Dietz Dialogue Sunday School Class and a member of the Altar Guild, Food Pantry Board, Cancer Friends, and Circle of Hope. For several years she taught the first grade Sunday School class and in recent years served as an usher. She enjoyed reading, traveling, the theatre, going to the movies and having lunch with her friends. As a child, Anne preferred reading over sewing and other activities. Her mother would often say, "The only handiwork my daughter ever did was to turn the pages of a book." An outstanding teacher and administrator, Anne was loved and respected by both friends and colleagues. She taught others how to live and celebrate life with grace, courage, sensitivity, and an unfailing sense of humor. She was very much looking forward to her 50th Central High class reunion in two weeks. The family would like to especially thank Dr. Mariann Harrington and the staff at the Little Rock Hematology/Oncology Clinic; Dr. Pamela Stone and staff at the women's oncology clinic at UAMS; the UAMS Ovarian Cancer Support Group; the nursing staff on the cancer floor at BMC, and the staff at Arkansas Hospice. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, September 8, at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church with the Reverend Victor H. Nixon officiating. A reception will follow in Wesley Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church Foundation or to the Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church Cancer Friends Support Group, 4823 Woodlawn, Little Rock, Arkansas 72205. Arrangements are by Ruebel Funeral Home, www.ruebelfuneralhome.com.

Anne is a sweet and sunny spirit who will be missed. I was looking forward to seeing her this month at our fiftieth reunion for Little Rock Central High. She decided to attend a far better reunion. Sending heartfelt condolences to Lynn and the family.

“Anne was a beautiful free spirit that would make you laugh and smile. I met Anne at the UAMS Ovarian Cancer Support group and learned that she was an Assistant Principal at Parkview where I am now a Counselor. She would always refer to me as Debbie when ever she was letting her sense of humor show. I am so sorry to hear about Anne’s passing. My deepest sympathy and prayers are with her family and loved ones.”

Anne and I were sorority sisters and roommates in the Zeta Tau Alpha house at UA, Fayetteville. I have wonderful memories of Anne. There was never a dull moment with her as a roommate/sister. I was lucky enough to visit with her a year or so ago. She had not changed...she was still had that sharp sense of humor that made you really laugh.

Anne was one of the first people I met when I first went to work at Humble Oil in Memphis over forty years ago. Her great wit was apparent then and I liked her immediatenly and we were life time friends. Linda and I stopped by Little Rock about two years ago and had a great visit. Anne influenced a lot or peo8ple and will be greatly missed.

Ann was my English teacher at Hall many years ago and a co-worker in the LR School District. We reconnected (sadly) at the Ovarian Cancer Support Group. We laughed and shared school stories. She always sported a new teal outfit or teal hat and took this journey with hope for the future. She will be greatly missed. To Lynn and friend, Donna, thank you for all your support with our group and please know that you ar in my thoughts and prayers.

Dr. Hansen was the Vice Principle for the class of '95 at Parkview, which is where I attended high school. As a member of our class reunion committee, I wanted to extend our deepest sympathies to her family. Although Dr. Hansen could be firm, she always had her student's best interest in mind!!

I also want to send my deepest sympathies to her son, Doug. I attended Mann Magnet at the same time he did and was heartbroken to hear of his loss. Many of his classmates know of his mother's passing and are praying for him!!

Anne and I helped each other at Parkview in the late 70's get through illnesses, milestones, and joys of our two children. I saw her a while ago and we just took up where we left off. She was a fun person to be around. May your memories of the fun she brought you get you through the hard times ahead.

We are so sad to learn of Anne's passing and treasure our time with her at Hendrix. Our mutual friend, Sam Blair, has kept us apprised of the progression of her illness. She was obviously a stalwart and a great example for us all. We send our love and deepest sympathy.

Anne the world was such a better place with your in it! You made my years as a teacher at Parkview just that much better. Thank You! You are going to be missed by me and by everyone that knows you, especially your family.

But now your are in such a better place. I know that my son Sam who passed away in Jan. of this year is showing you around Heaven. You are in good hands. I do know that between you and Sam and both of your great senses of humor, you two will have all the Angles laughing so hard that tears will be streaming down their cheeks causing it to rain. So the next time it rains, those wonderful drops of liquid sunshine that make our flowers grow, only Heaven knows what your two are up to, especially you Anne, that causes all the Angles in Heaven to laugh so hard that is begins to rain!

Anne, for everyone on Earth who knew you, even for a short moment, you gave each and everyone of us a smile, a laugh or you made us joyful. Now you are off to Heaven to do the same. What a blessing you have been to all of us here, the short time you have been with us.

You will be missed my friend and thank you so very much for touching my life.
Cindy Jennings and husband Boudreaux Cooper
