Biography: Felice Bryan Norfleet Burkholder, of Little Rock, died August 17, 2008 in her 97th year. She was born on the family farm outside Forrest City, Arkansas, the youngest of eight children. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lorena and W.W. Bryan, a merchant and planter. She was also preceded in death by her seven siblings, Lee Bryan, Rod Bryan, Avery Bryan, Shella Mae Bryan Bateman, Louise Bryan Messer, Dora Bryan Peay, and Ocie Lee Bryan Fitzsimmons. She was also the widow of Edmond Norfleet and Fred D. Burkholder. Felice is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Norfleet Clark, two grandchildren, Suzanna Clark Abston and William Penn Clark, and two great grandchildren, George Clark Abston and Anna Abagail Abston all of Little Rock. She is also survived by stepson, Dan Burkholder of Palensville, NY and stepdaughter, Mary Lou Burkholder Wilson of San Antonio, TX. Growing up on the family farm in St. Francis County, she witnessed many historical events, such as when her older brother purchased the first automobile in the county, the first electric light bulb, telephone and air conditioner. She was a distant relative of William Jennings Bryan. Felice loved to tell the stories of the “Old Days” to her family. Felice lived in Memphis, TN where she was a member of the City Wide Garden Club and the Spottswood Garden Club. She also enjoyed her Bridge Club and Ladies Afternoon Club. While living in Hagerstown, MD Felice was a charter member of the Hagerstown Lioness Club and a member of the Women’s City Club. Felice was a Methodist and always participated in United Methodist Women wherever she lived. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, August 21, 2008 in the Chapel of Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church, A graveside service will follow at 2:00 PM at Forest Park Cemetery in Forest City, Arkansas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church, 4823 Woodlawn Ave, Little Rock, AR 72205.
I am sorry to hear that your mom has died, but my, how wonderful to be able to have her this long. My mother died in 2004 and the age of 93.
