Biography: Robert Dwain Ross, 75, of Little Rock, passed away Sunday, June 29, 2008. Ross was the principal in the law firm Pope, Ross PLC. Born December 3, 1932, in Hope, AR, Ross was the son of the late Alma and Raymond Ross. He graduated from Hope High School, Southern State College in Magnolia, and the University of Arkansas School of Law in Fayetteville. Between college and law school he served with the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany. Ross clerked with Arkansas Supreme Court Justices Frank Holt and Neil Bohlinger before joining the Pope firm in 1963. In 1975 the firm's legal secretaries successfully nominated him Boss of the Year. Ross served the Arkansas Bar Association as secretary/treasurer, as chair of the executive committee, and as a tenured member of its House of Delegates. In 1994 he received the Presidents Award for this work on the Arkansas Judicial Nominations Committee. He was an Arkansas Bar Foundation Fellow. He chaired the committee on Professional Ethics and Grievance for the Pulaski County Bar, and frequently provided legal services to those in need through VOCALS. Recently he has served on Bar committees addressing handbooks, technology and website oversight. He was a past president of the boards of the Quapaw Quarter Association and the Centers for Youth and Families and served tenures on the vestry of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. Ross was selected from a field of nine candidates to serve as executive director of the 1979 Arkansas State Constitutional Convention. Ross is survived by his wife of 45 years, Frances Roots Mitchell Ross and their children: Mitchell Ross and his wife Kelly; Ginny Ross Deuschle and her husband John; Mary Starr Ross and her fiancé Wade Brock; and by six grandchildren: Courtney and Mitch Ross, and Starr, Lila, Hollis and Blakeslee Deuschle, all of Little Rock. A nephew, Larry Ross and his mother, Floy, of Houston, TX. After the burial, a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 17th and Spring Streets, officiated by the Rev. Canon Ewing Rhea Jackson. I am so sorry about pops he was a very nice man and grandfather. All of you are very blessed to have had a wonderful grandfather like him. Although you and every one else misses him he is in a much better place and is always there with you. Once again I am so sorry.
