There is absolutely nothing I could say that would adequately describe Matt or do his name justice. I am honored to have known him and to have had him for such a close friend for several years in high school. I remember such wonderful things about our phone conversations and the many times I would hang out with him at his house or go driving. He had the sweetest, most genuine disposition and I still can't believe he's gone. It brings tears to my eyes to think back at the fun times we had and the impact he made on my life. It also makes me regret that we lost touch and reminds me what death really means, both for the living and the dead. One thing I'll never forget is the way his eyes would light up when he was happy. The way those eyes sparkled was so reassuring and so beautiful. I also loved his carefree attitude and his playfulness. What a good friend he was.

I love you, Matt.

Generous and caring is an understatement about Matt. We were talking online once at about 2 am our senior year of high school, and somehow got on the topic of his special shrimp sauce. I told him how much I wanted to try it sometime, and he laughed and told me he'd be right back. 20 minutes later he returned to his computer and told me to go outside and check the roof of my friend's car outside the house. He'd left a small plate of shrimp, a small container of sauce, and a lemon wedge. That was probably one of the sweetest things I've ever seen done, and only one example of all the times Matt showed how amazing and wonderful he is. He was one of my few close friends I had at the beginning of high school and remained one of my best friends throughout, always making me laugh, and I still think about him almost daily even though we lost touch in college. He was a best friend, my first boyfriend, my first kiss, and one of the few people in my life I can say I truly love, as well as one of the best people I will ever know. I know countless people who agree with that statement. My love and prayers and thoughts are with all his family and friends and I wish I could be there today to celebrate him.

I love you, Matthew. I can't wait to see you again someday.

My daughter, Naomi was friends with Matt when they were at Parkview and they hung out when they were 16ish......she is very upset about his death and wish that she could have done something to help him. About 3 weeks ago, she thought about visiting him but it didn't work out and now she wishes that she had....I met him a couple of times back then (and you as well). I remember how he was handsome, smart and had a very sweet character. I am sure your were proud. As a mother, I know you must be hurting....we are also members of PHUMC and I am a stephen minister there. You might want to ask for a stephen minister contact you to talk, for a year or however long it takes. You can ask the pastor for more info. Talking about it with total privacy does help the healing. Again, we are so sorry and will be at the funeral. Lynn Warren

Laurie and Chris,

First of all, if either one of you ever needs anything, I hope you call me first. I'm fortunate that I've been able to keep in touch with the three of you these past few years.
I will never forget the good times Matthew and I had as Big Brother/Little Brother. He was so inquisitive, unique and well-mannered. Later, I was impressed when he called me a about year ago because he wanted to meet and eat pizza. We did and we had a great time and promised to keep in touch. I have nothing but fond memories of Matthew and always will. I sincerely believe that he's at peace now and I'm glad for that.
