I first met Vernon at Dive Camp 2007 at CoCoView, Roatan. We dove together many times and I so appreciated his wisdom and his wondereful, cheery personality. When we learned that he was ill and would not be able to join us in March of 2008, we were deeply saddened and spoke of him often. He was a very gentle, loving human being who will forever be remembered and thought of. Please accept my deepest sympathy for your loss. He touched my life as well as many others.

Vernon and my dad have been friends since their college days together, and he and Merle lived only a few streets over from my childhood home, so I have many fond memories of him during my younger years. I don't know if anyone in his family knew it or not, but he is the person who helped Dad build my crutches all of those many years ago - the ones I still use today, over 34+ years later. Reading the other posts, I think it would be safe to say Vernon touched many peoples lives - I know he has mine and that of my family, and he will never be forgotten.

I got to dive with Vernon twice - last year, and at Christmas. He was so much fun - always up for a little silliness. The local crew at CocoView Resort told me they had a blast at their annual Christmas party with Vernon, he played Santa, and got to hand out the bonus checks. He just loved being with people. He was a terrific guy, and I'll miss diving with him.

I had the pleasure of meeting Vern in Roatan last year in April. He was so much fun to be with and a very interesting man. I was very sad when I heard about his illness and that he would not be joining our group this year. I, too, give to the Roatan Children's Fund. My next donation will be in Vern's memory. I wish to offer my sincere sympathy to his many friends, family and former students.

Vernon joined our dive group on a trip to Roatan last May. I will always remember him by his smiling face, his gently and caring nature, and his patience for all those around him. I will always cherish my memories of him, he did indeed make his mark on this world.

O.F., an old friend to many of his extended CCV family. We just want everyone to know that he had attained the rank of CoConut... always in our minds and hearts. Thank you, Vernon. The place will be less for the loss of your kind and gentle ways.

I am one of many friends Vernon made during his trips to Roatan. Vernon was a kind and gentle giant of a man, freely giving his time and energy to improve the lives of the children of Roatan. His untimely passing saddens me greatly.

I just wanted to drop a short line to the family. Mr. Williams was my ninth grade Drafting teacher in 1969 -1970. He was the one who started me on my career path. After high school, I went on to receive a Civil Engr. degree and have been practicing civil engineering for the past 30 years. He was a wonderful teacher, mentor and friend. I will miis him.........Mike Sebren
