Biography: Charlotte Burks Stancil, age 89, of Little Rock, died Wednesday, April 2, 2008. She was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas the daughter of the late Louis Valentine and Zelma Thompson Burks. She was a graduate of Hot Springs High School. In the 1940s she and her two sisters decided to move to California where they volunteered to work with the government building airplanes for the war. The ladies that performed this task were known as “Rosie the Riveter”. Upon her return to Little Rock Charlotte married Charles T. Stancil, who died in 1989. Charlotte loved being with her family, gardening, and reading. She was also a long time member of Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Rudd Sunday School Class. Charlotte is survived by 2 daughters; Dr.Vickie Stancil and her husband Dr. Herschel Raney of Conway, Arkansas, Deborah Stancil of Little Rock and is pre-deceased by one daughter Cynthia Stancil Church who died in 1997. There will be a graveside funeral service Saturday, April 5, 2008 at 10am at Pine Crest Cemetery officiated by Reverend Jeff Hampton. Service arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home, www.ruebelfuneralhome.com. Memorials in lieu of flowers should be made to the Pulaski County Humane Society.
