Biography: Burnelle Boyce Holmes Regnier, 97, of Little Rock, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 16, 2008. Her last days were filled with visits from friends, family, Hospice Home Care nurses, and her special caregiver, Marie Williams. She was born Julia Burnelle Boyce to Dr. Samuel G. Boyce and Lucille Babcock Boyce on February, 28, 1911, in Little Rock, Arkansas. She took great pride in being the granddaughter of Arkansas author and founder of the Arkansas Museum of Natural History, Bernie Babcock. She attended Little Rock public schools and was the first student body president (1927) of what was then Little Rock High School (now Little Rock Central High School). After high school she graduated from Little Rock Junior College, now UALR. She then went on to the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville where she was president of Phi Beta Kappa and the Women's League. While at the University she was on the staff of the Traveler and was Miss Arkansas Traveler in 1931. That same year, she became a proud member of Chi Omega. Long after college she remained an active member of the Little Rock Chi Omega alumni and continued to write letters of recommendation for many Chi Omega hopefuls. She taught in the Little Rock public school system for many years - teaching English, government, civics, history, and economics classes at Pulaski Heights Junior High School and Forest Heights Jr. High School. And, she was a member of Westover Hills Presbyterian Church, of which she was a charter member. Her death was preceded by her first husband Oliver Wendell Holmes who died in 1969, her second husband Francis W. Regnier who died in 1984, and her brother Samuel G. Boyce of Monterey, California. Survivors are her two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas Wendell Holmes and Bonnie Holmes of Little Rock and Michael Boyce Holmes and Sharron Holmes of Wye Mountain; six grandchildren, Thomas Wesley Holmes (Wes) and wife Madelyn Holmes of Dallas, Howard Boyce Holmes (Boyce) and wife Robin Holmes, Taylor Holmes, Margaret Catherine Burnelle Lankford (Meg) and husband Jack Lankford, Jennifer Holmes (Jenny), and Michelle Burgess all of Little Rock; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Georgia Lee Boyce of Monterey California. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 21, 2008, at Westover Hills Presbyterian Church officiated by Rev. Deborah Freeman.
