Biography: Abe Sklar Rosen of Little Rock passed away March 2, 2008 at the age of 90. He was the son of the late Ida Sklar Rosen and Jacob Rosen, and was born in Greenville, Mississippi on November 12, 1917. He is survived by his spouse of 64 years, Leatrice Block Rosen; 3 sons and their spouses: Bob and Jane Rosen of Little Rock, Dr. Rich Rosen and Millie Zweir of Amherst, Massachusetts, and Dr. Ron and Nicki Rosen of Berea, Kentucky, 7 grandchildren: Sam Block Rosen and wife Melanie of New York City, Dr. Christopher Charles Rosen and wife Dr. Sarah Lueke of Fayetteville, Arkansas, James Rosen of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Richmond Rosen and wife Kim of Villa Hills, Kentucky, Alex Rosen and wife Amanda of Covington Kentucky, Sara Rosen and Lydia Rosen both of Amherst, Massachusetts, 2 great-grandchildren Benjamin of New York City and Oliver of Fayetteville, Arkansas. Mr. Rosen graduated from high school in Drew, Mississippi and received a B.S. degree in Business and Finance from Mississippi State University. He attended graduate school at Louisiana State University, where he held a teaching fellowship. He then secured a position with the Farm Security Administration in Little Rock. He was a 1st Lt. in the U.S. Army serving in the European Theatre during World War II. Following his return from the service, he joined Block Realty Company in 1946, and in 1948 he established Block Mortgage Company, Inc. In addition to operating the mortgage company, he started developing land and building houses with P. E. “Rip” Munnerlyn in 1953 and continued with Bill Bosley when Rip retired. This company was subsequently established under the name of A.S. Rosen and Associates, Inc. Over the years, some of the additions he participated in developing were: Pleasant View, Longlea, Overlook, Sheraton Park, Aspen Highlands, Rainwood, Glen Eagles, North Gate, Lindenwood, Richmond, Brennan, Garrett Glen, Rosemunn, Sanford, Yorkwood, and Cloverdale. His latest project was the development of Stonecreek. He was a past president of the Arkansas Mortgage Bankers Association, and served a term on the National Legislative Committee of the Mortgage Bankers Association. In March of 1986, the name of Block Mortgage Company, Inc was changed to Rosen and Carroll Mortgage Company, Inc., and this company was subsequently sold to First Commercial Mortgage Company in December, 1986. In 1996, Mr. Rosen went back into the mortgage banking business with Jim Carroll when they formed The Carroll Mortgage Group. Mr. Rosen was a member of Temple B’nai Israel for 60 years and a former member of the board. There will be a memorial funeral service held Friday March 7th, 2008 at the Temple B’nai Israel at 1:00 PM officiated by Rabbi Eugene Levy. A reception will follow at the Temple.
