Biography:

Jean Ann Abernathy Kidd, born November 7, 1949, lived with conviction, loved deeply and honestly, and met life with humor. Even her obituary began with a wink: she knew her life better than anyone, so she decided to write it herself.

Born to Jean Morrow Abernathy and Harry Hewes Abernathy, Jean Ann cherished her childhood on Jewel Road, riding bicycles, exploring creeks, and making friendships that lasted a lifetime. A Hall High School cheerleader, she attended the University of Arkansas and pledged Tri Delta before marrying Jud and beginning a new chapter of her life.

Her greatest joy was her family: daughter Carrie; son Judson and his partner, Jim; grandchildren Candler, Caroline, and Donovan; brother Ab and his wife, Carol; and her adopted son, Rob McAuley, and his wife, Sandy. She treasured their time together and wrote of them with pride and affection.

Jean Ann loved tennis, travel with dear friends, and painting at Local Colour Gallery. During the pandemic, she wrote a novel, The Wind Chasers. Her creativity and mischievous wit made even ordinary memories worth telling.

Above all, Jean Ann loved Jehovah and devoted her life to serving him. Her faith was unwavering, and her commitment was evident in the way she lived each day. She never let distance or inconvenience keep her from attending meetings. She faithfully shared her beliefs with others, going door to door to teach them about Jehovah, and, most importantly, lived her faith in a way that inspired those around her. Those who knew her remember a woman who stood firmly for her beliefs, whatever the odds, and whose devotion was a beautiful example to her family and all who knew her.

Her suffering has ended, but her absence leaves a profound ache. Her own words offer the sweetest farewell: “Life has been a joy for me.” And, acknowledging her faults with humor, she added, “But why dwell on them now?”

She leaves a legacy of faith, laughter, steadfast love, and friendships that will outlive her days.

A private family burial will take place on Thursday, October 15, followed by a celebration of Jean Ann's life from 5 to 7 p.m. at Pleasant Valley Country Club, 1 Pleasant Valley Drive, Little Rock, AR 72212.

The family wishes to especially thank Dr. Larry Mendelson.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to CARTI and/or the Humane Society. Arrangements are under the direction of RuebelFuneralHome.com

Throughout school and beyond it was always joy to be in the presence of Jean Ann and Jud. Their contagious smiles and sincere warmth towards their fellow classmates made knowing them both a pleasure. Where one was you could always find the other. My deepest condolences to you Jud and your children. My boys, Jeremy and Donnie and Natasha send their love and prayers.
