Biography: Sara Evelyn McGaughy Place, born in Senatobia, Mississippi, on August 21, 1933, was a woman of remarkable strength, unwavering love, and quiet grace. She passed away in Little Rock, Arkansas, on September 6, 2026.

Sara was known by many names - daughter, sister, wife, Mom, and Mimi - but to her closest friends and family, she was simply Sally. She was a wonderful and sweet woman, but she was also a force of nature. She was the rock of her family and a steady presence in the lives of others. Through both joyful and difficult times, she remained strong, facing life's challenges with courage, determination, faith, and an enormous capacity for love.

Sara was born with a green thumb and a sense of creativity. She had a passion for gardening, antiques, décor, and her beloved hand-painted decorative eggs. She had a unique talent, and she loved sharing her passions with the ones she cared for most.

Her family can take comfort in knowing that her legacy lives on through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who are beautiful reflections of her values, character, and love. The impact of her life will continue to be felt for generations, carried forward in the hearts of all who were blessed to know and love her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Rogena Smith; her siblings, June Smith, Louis Smith Jr., and Don Smith; and her husbands, Hugh McGaughy Jr. and William E. Place.

She is survived by her four daughters, Leslie Turley (Rex), Linda Inebnit, Cindy Harris, and Ginger Townsend (Mike); her stepdaughter, Wendy Gerard (Craig); her stepson, Billy Place; her sister, Cissy Bryant; her grandchildren, Katie Lawrence, Tommy Inebnit III (Katie), Clayton Turley (Jeanette), Brandon Turley, Sara Hanle (Nathan), Christopher Townsend, Matthew Townsend (McKenzie), Jack Harris, Andrew Townsend (Sky), and Danny Place; and her great-grandchildren, Eli Inebnit, Marlee Lawrence, Hannah Inebnit, Lauren Turley, Ivy Townsend, Addison Hanle, Morgan Turley, Brooke Turley, and Walton Townsend.

Pallbearers include Tommy Inebnit III, Clayton Turley, Brandon Turley, Christopher Townsend, Matthew Townsend, Jack Harris, Andrew Townsend, and Nathan Hanle.

She was a longtime resident of Pine Bluff and Little Rock, Arkansas, and a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of the Holy Souls Catholic Church. Memorials can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Our Lady of the Holy Souls Catholic Church, Mount St. Mary Academy, and Catholic High School for Boys.

Services will be held Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 2:00pm at Ruebel Funeral Home, located at 6313 W. Markham St., Little Rock, AR 72205.
