Biography:

Sara Hitchcock Lang, 85, passed away peacefully at Hospice Home Care on Wednesday, July 22, 2026. Sara was born in Kilgore, Texas, to the late William Roy and Martha Hitchcock. She was a proud graduate of C.E. Byrd High School and Centenary College of Louisiana. It was at Centenary where she met the love of her life, James Russell Lang, Jr. (Jay), whom she was married to for 64 incredible years.

Sara and Jay built a wonderful life in Shreveport, La., where they raised their three daughters - Becca, Ainsley and Katie. Sara was involved in many community organizations in Shreveport, including chairing the Red River Revel Arts Festival, participating in the Junior League of Shreveport, and serving on the Caddo Parish School Board. She was also an active member of Broadmoor United Methodist Church. Sara loved spending time with a close circle of friends - you would often find them playing tennis or pretending to sew at their monthly “sewing club.” She was especially proud of earning her MBA from Centenary College in 1996 at the age of 55. Jay retired in 2005, and in 2008 they made the decision to leave Shreveport and move to Little Rock to be closer to family. They quickly found a new church home at St. James United Methodist Church, where they joined the Forum Sunday School Class. This class welcomed Sara and Jay with open arms, and the many friendships formed here helped ease the transition to their new city. Another source of close friendships for Sara and Jay came from their membership at Pleasant Valley Country Club, where they spent many days playing golf, working out in the fitness center or visiting with friends in the clubhouse restaurant. Sara was an avid reader who also enjoyed working crossword puzzles and playing weekly mahjong with a group of special friends.

Sara’s absolute favorite part about living in Little Rock was the relationships she and Jay were able to share with their four granddaughters: Lauren, Hagan, and Addison Hord of Stuttgart, and Caitlin Skokos of Little Rock. Among her many accomplishments, sharing the Chi Omega sisterhood with her three daughters and her three college-aged granddaughters was one that she especially treasured.

Sara is preceded in death by her parents; her sister Mary Jane Hitchcock Gibson; and her brothers-in-law, John Boggiano and Jerry Gibson. She is lovingly survived by her husband of 64 years, Jay; and her daughters Becca Lang Zuch (Frank), Ainsley Lang Skokos, and Katie Lang Hord (Eddy); her cherished granddaughters, Lauren, Hagan, Addison, and Caitlin; her beloved sister Helen Hitchcock Boggiano; many wonderful nieces and nephews; and her loyal four-legged companion, Cooper.

The family would like to thank the staff at Briarwood Nursing & Rehabilitation Center and the Comfort Care Center Hospice Inpatient Facility for the loving care they provided to Sara, as well as her devoted caregiver, Sharon Byrd, who quickly became a friend and special part of the family.

A private interment will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, in the Lang columbarium at St. James United Methodist Church. Following the columbarium service, a visitation for all will be held at the church from 2-3 p.m., with a memorial service immediately following in the St. James sanctuary. The service may be viewed remotely at StJamesLR.Online.Church of by visiting the church’s Facebook page at Facebook.com/StJamesLR

Donations may be made to the Central Arkansas Library System (CALS) Foundation, 100 Rock Street, Little Rock, Ark. 72201, or to an organization of your choice.

The family would like to invite all who loved Sara to join them at 4 p.m. at The Villas Clubhouse to celebrate her life. Arrangements are under the direction of RuebelFuneralHome.com
