Biography: Michael Warren Moore, 55, died July 3, 2026, in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was born September 2, 1970, to Dr. J. Malcolm (Mack) and Barbara Moore.
Although born with many limitations, Michael had a full rich life. While he couldn’t speak, he had an amazing memory and understanding of people, places and events. Unable to use traditional sign language, he developed a gestural language to communicate. He gave all his family friends ‘names” which so often captured their personalities: “Fish”- Nelson Huey, “Sister/Bride”-Susan Sutton, “Balloon Lady”-Irene Davis, “Good Witch”-Glenda Ensminger, “Cat”-Frances Mayhan, “Parade”-Sharon Cissell, “Pretty Baby”-Joyce Meadors, “Crazy”-Joyce Franklin, and “Hookem Horns”-Warren Overton.
Never able to attend traditional schools, he first attended Archild, an early interventional preschool in Little Rock led by Dr. Dolly Moseley. He then was a very special member of the Easy K Ranch for 20 years in Sage, Arkansas. A loving place for individuals in need of extended care.
Although unable to physically play, he loved all ball sports. He played baseball and basketball with his family in a creative way. He loved to go to the golf course with his dad and “hit” golf balls with him. They even played in a Father-Son Tournament and won a trophy. He loved to watch the Razorbacks but his very favorite team was the Chicago Cubs. A highlight of his young life was a trip to Chicago when his brother was working there. Good friend Nelson Huey(Fish) got great seats to see a game where legendary announcer Harry Caray led “Take Me Out To The Ballpark” which Michael always accompanied with his signs, Michael loved watching fireworks on the Fourth of July and seeing him experience such joy was always a special family memory.
After a comminuted fracture of his hip, Michael and his family were blessed with the incredible skill and love of Ben Hood who has been his caregiver and best friend for over 20 years, Ben brought Michael into his church near his home, The Greater Christ Temple Pentecostal Church into which Michael was baptized and joined. Michael lived with Ben to be close to the church and became a part of the many church and neighborhood activities with Ben. They were also active in the First Pentecostal Church in North Little Rock. Those two congregations embraced him with love and became an important part of Michael’s life.
Michael loved road trips and he had many adventures with Ben all over the country including being at the wake for Michael Jackson at the Apollo theater in New York and the funeral for Aretha Franklin in Detroit. While in Washington DC, Secretary of State Colin Powell’s driver guided them around and took them home to his mother’s for lunch. His life was broadened and enriched and he gained an independence that only Ben could give him.
He loved so much the family holiday and birthday dinners and time with his nephews and niece. People were always drawn to him. There was a special light in his eyes and smile in a world that can sometimes seem dark. He touched the lives of all who knew him. He blessed the lives of those who loved him and made us better people.
He is preceded in death by his father, Dr. J. Malcolm Moore, grandparents John Malcolm and Jewel Moore of Arkadelphia, Arkansas, and Louis and Evelyn Goad of Marked Tree, Arkansas.
