Biography: Betty Cleaver Davis, age 83, of Little Rock passed away Thursday, February 14. She was born May 27, 1924, to Lyda Martin Cleaver and E.A. Cleaver of Little Rock. She is survived by her husband, Atley Davis, her daughter, Diane Peters and husband George of Little Rock; her daughter, Debra McQueen and husband, Michael of Annapolis, Maryland; her son, Rhea Davis, of Little Rock; her granddaughter, Elizabeth McQueen and husband, David Sanger of Austin, Texas; and her granddaughter, Katherine McQueen and husband Lynn Boland of Austin, Texas. A lifelong Methodist, she loved her church, Pulaski Heights United Methodist, especially the Upper Room Sunday School Class, and was a fervent supporter of her beloved Alma Mater, Hendrix College. Always ready to stand for what was right, she was one of the “little ladies in tennis shoes,” the Women’s Emergency Committee, which worked for tolerance and the reopening of Little Rock’s high schools in 1959. She enjoyed travel, needlework, ballroom dancing, working in the family business after her children were grown, and, when her eyesight failed, listening to books on tape. She was steadfast and devoted to her many friends, and always gracious and charming to everyone she met. But her first love was her family: her husband, whom she believed to be the smartest and most wonderful fellow around; and her children and grandchildren, in whose lives and accomplishments she reveled. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. There will be a visitation held from 5:00 to 7:00 Monday evening at Ruebel Funeral Home. Arrangements by Ruebel Funeral Home, www.ruebelfuneralhome.com
