Biography:
Ben Ronald Williamson of Fayetteville, Ark., passed away peacefully on June 5, 2026, at the age of 73 at Willard Walker Hospice House, following complications from a stroke. He was surrounded by his wife and loved ones.
Ben was born in 1952, in San Diego, California, to Patt (Patricia) and Ben D. Williamson. He was raised in Malvern, Arkansas, where he developed the values and work ethic that would guide him throughout his life.He attended Henderson State University and was a proud member of the Phi Sigma Epsilon fraternity. After earning a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1975, Ben dedicated his career to teaching and coaching. During his career as an educator, football coach, and baseball coach, he served at Glenwood, Caddo Hills, Murfreesboro, and Mountain Home secondary schools.
Ben helped lead numerous teams to undefeated seasons, district championships, and state titles. Yet the greatest accomplishment of his coaching career was the lasting impact he had on the lives of his students and athletes. Through his leadership, mentorship, and encouragement, he inspired countless young people both on and off the field.
In 1995, Ben married Marilyn Cottey Elder. Their love story began in Hawaii during a Razorback basketball trip, and they quickly discovered a shared passion for each other and for the Arkansas Razorbacks. Following Ben's retirement, they moved to Fayetteville, where they enjoyed attending countless Razorback baseball, basketball, and football games together. Ben especially treasured his time at Swatters Club luncheons, where he enjoyed meeting and visiting with Razorback baseball players.
Ben is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn Williamson of Fayetteville; his sister, Tricia Williamson of Vancouver, Washington; and his extended family, including Karen Bonner (Mark), Chris Elder (Brenda), Kathy Goins (Roger), Kim Gammill (Dan), and Keri Mahan (Brook). He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him great joy.
A visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9, at Moore's Chapel Funeral Home in Fayetteville. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 11, at Forest Hills Cemetery in Alexander, Arkansas. Ruebel Funeral Home of Little Rock is assisting the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Ben's honor to the American Heart Association.
Ben will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his students, and the many lives he touched through teaching, coaching, and friendship.
