Biography: “Sanci was a kind and artistic soul. She surrounded herself and loved ones with creativity and possibilities." Frances Alexander Thomas, known affectionately as "Sanci" by friends and family, died on Saturday, February 9th, in Little Rock. She is preceded in death by her parents, John L. and Ruby (White) Alexander, her brother John L. Alexander, Jr., and her sister, Joan Olivia (Alexander) Tiller Hart. Born in Portland, AR, on December 1, 1921, Sanci was schooled at Mount Saint Mary’s through her teens, and graduated from Little Rock High School. She was married in June of 1942 to Dr. Peter O. Thomas. They had two children, Alexandra Thomas in 1950, and Peter O. Thomas, Jr., in 1952. She and Dr. Peter O. Thomas were members of Second Presbyterian Church, Christ Church, and the Little Rock Country Club. An accomplished artist, Sanci worked in the photography department at Pfeiffer's. Later she was a fashion illustrator for Pfeiffer Blass and Magic Mart. She was actively involved in diverse social projects, such as the Arkansas Arts Center’s "Beaux Arts Ball," and the "Save Our Schools" campaign during the desegregation crisis of 1957. These represent her dominant passion for art and social activism, culminating in animal welfare, and the acceptance of the spay/neuter stamp by the U.S. Postal Service. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Peter O. Thomas (Little Rock), daughter Alexandra Thomas (San Francisco), son Peter O. Thomas, Jr. and wife Penny, and grandchildren Peter O. Thomas, III and Presley Alexandra Thomas (Little Rock); nephews John Tiller (Pat), Madison, AL, Dr. Gene Alexander (Mary), Fort Smith, AR., Dr. Al Alexander (Cathy), Little Rock, Tommy Tiller (Missy), Fayetteville, AR., and Robert Tiller, Little Rock. A unique, special and wonderful woman, friend and mother, she will be sorely missed by friends and loved ones! In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to CARE for Animals (Central Arkansas Rescue Effort for Animals) P.O. Box 7604, Little Rock, AR 72217-7604. Cremation arrangements are by Ruebel Funeral Home of Little Rock, www.ruebelfuneralhome.com.
